depends if you ever put anyone back there. Within the 7 years that I had my third gen, I can cound the number of times I have put someone back there on one hand. That is why the back seat is usually just folded down.

I would say keep them there unless you have plans of putting something cool back there. For example, 2 ten lbs NOS bottles or some kick *** amps.

Anyone have pictures of cool stuff for back there? I'd like to see how someone would mount nitrous back there.

Replace your seats with forth gen leather seats.

pull them out right now! Personally i hate taxing people around if i wanted to drive people around i would have bought a van. This is the reason my seats came out however now that they are out im so glad i did it. The brackets sticking out from the carpet dont look fantastic but the car as a whole looks sooo much more sporty as a 2 seater. Also i plan (when i can get the money together) to put a roll cage in so the back seats would have been coming out at that point anyways. I already promised some pics of the back seats out to someone on tgo so ill get em taken and put em up in the next day or 2

I got half of my back seats removed... *chuckles* I think I got the bottoms out, but the tops required a torx bit, which I don't have. :P Too lazy to borrow one. Ah well, come summer I'll finish that project off.

Heres what i did to turn my IROC into a 2 seater. I put my amp on a custom rack in the storage area. I made the wires from the amp to my box long enough to reach to the back seat. I fold down my back seat and put the box on top of it. It works real well and it looks awesome with huge subs right behind your seat. But when i need to carry some extra hoes (haha) i can move the box back ontop of the fuel tank hump. It works great either way. Maybe later ill make a custom fiberglass sub enclosure and take out the back seat for good.

They weigh absolutly nothing theyre foam. Your not gonna save much weight on this one.

I read they were ~30lbs? I think it was on that weight reduction article on TGO. Either way, it does look a lot better without them. I'm with you Doug, a cage! I'd like to cage her and have just one 10-15lb N20 bottle mounted in the center. Talk about P-I-M-P

yup 6/8 point cage, nitrous bottle mounted on the drive shaft hump, 2 10" subs either in the trunk or behind the back seats, and almost completly gutted interior, thats the plan at least

as for em being 30 pounds total i doubt that highly but id say maybe 15-20 theyre just foam padding but obviously they have some weight. Not enough to make any difference from removing them tho

i would think a good 25lbs is expectable however it take 100lbs to shave .1 off your time so i wouldn't do it expecting to be speed racer.

i recently removed mine for good, i wouldn't recommend doing it unless you have something some how to replace it though as i personally think it looks funny with a big hole and nothing to fill it and since the seats are that heavy it's not worth it in my opinion over looks.

i recently installed a 6pt. chromoly cage with some corbeau seats and a 3,000 watt system so i decided to ditch the seats. i'm currently finishing my custom setup but the 3 10" subs reside basically where the top of the rear seat sat, i used the stock seat brackets as mounting points for my enclosure which came in handy. beneath the custom box setup i have two nitrous bottle that are angled towards the center console mounted to the rear hump. using some creativity and alot of leather i was able to wrap everything up nicely. this way i can turn my bottles on very easily, it's hidden from view for the most part until you turn the disco ball on and it all works together so there isn't just a big hole.

if you want to remove the seats you should, i just wouldn't recommend it unless you have plans to fill it as the weight reduction really doesn't justify the bad looks. i would not remove the brackets though as you never know if you want to put the seats back and they aren't noticeable enough to others to warrant cutting them out for good. however its just my opinion.....

good luck!

I don't know about the weight of the seats but I would say the foldable part and the foam stuff might not be that bad to leave there from a traction standpoint. In any case, I would probably remove it if I was installing a roll cage.
