Post Anyone have a 383 and pass the sniffer?

Im thinking of building a 383 and was wondering if you can get them to pass the sniffer. If anyone has does this with a tpi setup please respond. I want engine spects. Last I dont want to spend more than 2k on the bottem end. Can this be done?

Done, yes. done right? NO.

Boring it 30 thousands over requires new pistons. Forged pistons are not cheap. Balancing and blueprinting the engine is not cheap. You need a good crank. If you are not making too much power, you might get away with having the a used one that is magnafluxed. Also the rods need to be reworked. I had my 383 rebuilt because of the junk heads that caused it's demise. Replaced 1 piston and transfered the rest of the hardware over and it was already $1800.

Unless you want to rebuild it yourself, I highly doubt it. You can't have quality and cost all in one package.

I am using the Accel 74219 camshaft, AFR heads and Superram intakes with SLP headers. I believe they all have EO numbers and last time I checked, they all passed AFTER the EPROM was tuned just right.

If I do the 383 im going to build it myself. Im looking at a new 350 4 bolt and thinking about a 400 scat crank. Some decent rods and forged pistons. Im looking for 300-350rwhp. Im not sure what heads and cam im going to use yet. Last I would like to use the stock tpi intake for a little while.

Also I would like to be able to add a sc if it's still not fast enough.

You mentioned the Scat crank.... are these the imported cranks from China? I dont know if they are, but I have been speaking with a good machine/speed shop locally, and the Chinese made cranks usually require a lot of work to make them fit properly. Talk to a good shop about the cranks, they should lead you in the right direction. You will spend more on a really good crank, but you will not have the problems from poor quality after its all together. Try a search on this site on crankshafts. I think you will find some good info.

Of course you can pass with a 383, I passed with my old combo no problem, and expect to pass with the new combo also.

The scat cranks are fine. The overseas made stuff had quality problems years ago that have been fixed now. I have an eagle crank and rods now, no problems.
