any seggestions?

hey guys , i just bought an 85 4dr impala w/ a rebuilt 400 sbc, and 700 trans. car is in very nice condition. wanted to get at least 370 hp out of this motor and still be smog legal. i was thinking of ported vortec heads, cam and intake. also is there a site made for my beast.

it also came w/ a posi rear. thanks guys

how bout the edelbrock E-tech heads...they are supposed to outflow the vortecs and are cheaper i think...look in summit catalog.

if the block is in good shape i think i would just get one of the Holley SysteMax. they say with average heads to expect 350hp. i would say a good set of heads and you could be at 375 easy, maybe closer to 400 depending.

i'd say pull the motor's bottom end apart to check clearances on the bearings.

basically i mean not a 150K mile motor... good bearing clearance, good ring seal, and decent compression ratio.

if it runs strong now, with no oil burning than you are probably fine at least for another 10-20K plus miles barring any "serious" abuse.

do you know what kind of compression it has? cause that will affect how you set it up.

edit:

i jsut noticed you said "smog legal"...that may be a bit harder. cause i don't know how clean a heads/cam small block runs. maybe look into a TPI system or an electronic TBI system. they run cleaner.

holley stealth ram complete system

holley commander 950 TBI system

edelbrock pro-efi system for etec or vortec heads they also have them for standard heads.

all that i know that it had a stock rebuild, so im assuming a 8 8.5 cr. i dont want more than 9 to 1. i thought a carb would be easier to tune and with a 750 cfm carb should be good too.

thanks
