Arrow Alum vs. Stock Driveshaft??

I was wondering if anyone had any input on the kinda Horsepower I would be freeing up with using a aluminum driveshaft on my L98. Thanks

Agreed, it's always a good idea, but I would put that money into the motor first. That is where you will make your real power.

but something like an ls1 driveshaft will eliminate alot of added vibration at highway speeds.

another Pro of swapping it out.

and it's more like 1-2hp and 5#s of torque

Re: Alum vs. Stock Driveshaft??

I didnt spend 150.00 on it. Its outta a LS1 car Ive noticed less vibration at 100mph. I didnt get a chance to take it any higher..ran outta room..too much traffic I paid less then 80.00 for it and Im pretty happy with it cause that old stock driveshaft weighed a ton compared to this baby.

I have a LPE alm driveshaft in my car & no vibration on it. My husband also has one as well in his 95 Camaro no notice in there.

How do you tell if vibration is from your tires or from your driveshaft?

I would like to know as well since I have a massive vibration at about 90mph.
I've got the stock aluminum Driveshaft on my 88.

Ditto for me too Zepher. Only seems to happen at high RPM. A bit through the end of 2nd gear and really noticeable going through 3rd gear. (automatic)

3.27 gears, original tires, 1LE shaft.

Go have your wheels/tires balanced and see if that fixes it?

That would be a good start probably. i would think a tire vibration would be felt through the steering wheel more, and a driveshaft vibration would be felt more through the seats and floor.

General rule of thumb for tire vibration:

Felt in the steering wheel - front tires

Felt in the seat - rear tires.

Re: Alum vs. Stock Driveshaft??

I have a lot of vibration in my car. I put on new tires, struts and shocks and the vibration only reduced a little. I'm going to an aluminum driveshaft soon. Is it a good idea to get a used one off a '99 or earlier 4TH gen????? Or should I spend the money on a new one????? I heard that Chevy had a recall on the early 1993 driveshafts due to vibrations.
