alternator wires?

I have an 86 IROC that has a 2-wire alt. I changed to a 91 set/up, the 91 has a 3-wire alt. I need to know how to go from a 2-wire to a 3-wire plug.
thanks, joe

Re: alternator wires?

the 3 wires on the 91 style alternator are as follows:
RED(or black)---goes to battery+
RED-------goes to starter
brown---goes to Fan fuse in fuel panel.

the alternator grounds itself by the case once you mount it

I do not know how the wires are on your cars factory setup.

I remember seeing an adapter harness for this setup on the net somewhere

Re: alternator wires?

if you cant get the wiring straightened out, then try to see if you can swap out the guts from one to the other.
