Alright 3rd Gen'ers...Help With A Carb on My 84 TA...
Hey guys,
i have a 84 TA 305 H.0...
I need a new or newer carb to replace it. What do u guys suggest? Find a used one from a similar car or upgrade to a better brand? If so, what and how much? i dont really wanna spend too much cause i dont drive it much. Has anyone seen one for sale that seemed like a great deal or has one themselves for sale?
also will a 87 formula 305 h.o carb work on my car? i'm pretty clueless bout 3rd gen's cause i spent so much time with the 94 z
...
let me know what u guys think
thanks!

Why do you "need" a new carb? What is wrong with the one you have? And why not address the issue rather than throw parts at the car that might not fix it?

dude, i wont try to guess something that was wrong if it wasnt.
my dad just relayed me the info from his mechanic and thats what we were told. so i just go off from that. so i still need a carb...anyone?
I changed the carb on my H.O. with a stock replacement made by Holley sold through Kragen (Checkers or Schucks depending on where you live.) You wouldn't believe the power difference it made. I bought it for a little over $200.00 it was worth every penny. I don't suggest going with a used one cause you never know what your buying plus with the Holley you get a warranty.
Goodluck.

Just about any parts store sells remanufactured electronic QJets that fit your car for the same price as that Holley.
The holley replacement is a Q-Jet. Holley bought out Rochester. All the Holley is, is a refurbished Rochester Q-jet. Mine still has the Rochester name on it. I had to turn my old one in as a core so they can refurbish that. Q-jet's are mildly descent carbs but they cant come close to comparing with many aftermarket carbs. He just sounded like he needed a cheap but effective replacement.

I would suggest taking it somewhere to get it rebuilt
from what everyone says about the q-jets being bad carbs it can be very tempting to just ditch it and go with something else, either replace it with something equivalent or get yourself a spreadbore Holley and forget about the computer controlled stuff
my q-jet was in horrible shape and i was changing intakes as well so i just ditched the whole comp controlled carb idea and went with a Holley 4160 and I love it

Do you have an auto or a manual? If you have an auto I would stay with a stock replacement. If you replace the carb with anything other than stock replacement you will also have to change to a non computer controlled distributer. If it is an auto, you will also have to get a braket for the tv cable and a kit to allow the tranny to lock up but if it is a manual you just have to worry about the distribuiter.
