Aftermarket oil pan?
Aftermarket oil pan?
Who on this board has an aftermarket oil pan that fits the stock k-member? I am currently building a different 355 for my formula. I am still using the stock crank, and having the rods reconditiond. I will also be using some Wiesco forged slugs, yada yada, anyway. I am looking around for an aftermarket oil pan and a pick up to go with the pan. Any of you guys have any ideas?

Re: Aftermarket oil pan?
On both motors I just used the Summit kick out oil pan with HV oil pump and pick up tube kit. We're kinda in a spot with these cars with little ground clearance so a standard deep sump is out of the question unless you want to decapitate ants
In both engines i had good results, even with this 388 storker I had no clearence issues with rods and longer stroke and it carried great oil pressure under acceleration and hard braking.
Only down fall is they are tight to get motor set in due to kick out design. The kick outs are VERY tight to k member when your trying to slide engine into place and I ended up removing bolt that holds front brake line to the top of the k member so I could push them out of the way for the extra 1/8"-3/16" to make it easier...yeah, it's that snug. Removing the engine is also fun, but the extra capacity is worth it even though I only run 6qt total anyways.
We filled a standard 5qt oil pan found on almost all factory sbc's and found we could fill it with 10qts before it was close to hitting crank throws with rods installed. So in all truth, the next motor will just use a standard pan and I will add the extra qt to for a total of 6qts since once the motor is fired up there is quite a bit of oil sitting on top in the heads and valley not to mention inside the filter itself that under acceleration it will not foam up due to crank windage/churning. I may look into a stock type pan with a trap door and will definately install a oil pump block off plate to help oil from riding up under dead stop to WOT conditions, other than that I wont waste my money and hair loss trying to get the kicked out pan to fit this stock K member.

Re: Aftermarket oil pan?
I run the Miloden stock replacement pan with my 383. Its clears everything just fine. Plus its under 100 bucks. I also went with Summits (Melling M55) pump and pickup combo.
