Accel EFI Questions CALMAP
Accel EFI Questions CALMAP
All right, here we go, this is pretty specific, but I REALLY need any info on this, I am looking to install the Accel EFI Gen VII Cal Map injection system and I have a few questions as to will this work or not, I have an 86 Camaro with a 700R4 and 383, I have an MSD 6AL ignition, a DUI HEI distributor with internal coil, I have Auto Meter Electronic Speedo and Electrical Tach. Ok now here’s the questions, first is that the Accel EFI seems to hook up to the distributor at the same location that the MSD6AL hooks up to it, is there a way to make this work so that you can use both the MSD6AL on our cars and the Accel EFI without buying Accel's Dual synch distributor with two connectors on the outside.
Second question, any problems with the 700R4 tranny, painless and Accel both make harnesses to use on a 700R4 in this setup, how well do these harnesses work, does anybody know, supposedly they control the lockup for you.
And lastly, I have 2 vacuum lines leaving my vacuum canister area in the driver side front of the car, Accel seems to only list one, where does the big vacuum line go to on this set up?
Thanks for any helpful information, anything that will make this a possibility, I will OWE you, lol, thanks a lot.

If you really wna thte easiest way to hook one of theses computers up I would go to White Racing . They have plug and play harnesses so that you can keep all the stock wiring the same.
Just plug in there harness to the factory wire harness end that would normally plug into the cars ECM and then plug the other end into the EFI unit. Thats it!!
This is the way I'm going once I get the cash to buy the unit.

Yeah, but then you don't get a MAP sensor and you have to stick with the MAF, and they seem a little pricey, granted you keep your wiring harness and all, but part of the niceness of the total packages is it detects everything and all, I'm sure I can get this to work, as far as the distributor goes it may require just splitting the wires, I have to look into it more. thanks for the suggestion though, but I'm definately not paying 1200 bucks for an adaptor.
More info for anyone interested, for the dual sync distributor it looks like you would have to upgrade to an external coil instead of the sweet internal coil we have been blessed with.
You only need that distributer and a crank trigger if you want to run seguential. Our cars run on a bank to bank system.
As for the map situation... There is a conversion kit from the same people that utilizes the MAF wiring to incorporate a MAP. Its really simple and you'll have a speed density computer with great tuning abilities.
BTW... I've been researching this product and company for over a year now. Considering I just posted the link for you and you aren't that frequent of a member, I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclutions like that.
The site I posted will delete the MAF and Give you the MAP capibilities. The harness makes it a plug and play install. You can also get a wide band O2 sensor added to the kit and it will give you even better tuning. If you do get the wide band O2 you'll hve to run a seperat wire harness just for the O2 back to the computer. (its a 7 wire system)
