Both will be similarly difficult. The LT1 will be a little harder because you've got to play games with the accessory pullies to make things fit, and you'll either need to get a 4L60E, or get a vacuum operated lockup controller for your 700R4.

If you use a 93 type wiring you can use a 700, Also a place called March sells several different pully arangements and set-ups to do different swaps with an LT1. I dont thin they have a 3rd gen specific set but I beleive they have one that works, also another company sells even better stuff but I cant find their name right off hand, I'll get back to ya.

Do it. I love mine its not exactly stock but its fast. I have a 4l60e behind it right now. It will break the tires loose at 40 mph. I am working on a t56 conversion which should be even more fun.

If you are going to go through all the trouble of swapping engines, you might as well go for the LT1.

If I had the budget and choice, I'd find me a 383 and drop it in. A guy can dream can't he?

Go with the lt1, i just started mine for the first time 4 days ago. I cant drive it yet because all the suspension is out but i plan on it being all ready to go the day my suspension comes in. It wasnt that hard, i had a special wirring harnes made for the car and great instructions. The engine has 21k on it with the 4l60E and from the radiator to the drive shaft, including the torque arm it cost me $1400 for the everything including stock wirring. But the after market wirring harness with a custom chip cost $1000.
