Post 9" ford

What would it take to put a 9" ford in a 3rd gen camaro? This car was originally a v6 but will be a v8. TIA.

One from the junkyard is difficult. First you need to find one narrow enough to fit. Then you need to find some way to attach or eliminate the third gen's torque arm. All that's left is to transfer all the other mounts over to the new diff. Spring pirches, shock and LCA mounts. Lastly you'll need to get an adaptor u-joint and maybe change the length of the driveshaft.

You can buy a complete, ready to bolt in 9" from Currie or Strange for around $2000.

Cool

The easiest way...buy the housing and axle kit from Moser. It comes with a torque arm bracket, and all the necessary brackets for your LCAs and panhard bar. This goes for around $700. Id have them use the later disc housing ends, and use late 4th gen brakes. You can keep your stock bolt pattern and stud size. Next, buy or build up a center section of your choice. You can go from junkyard at about $50, to swap meet special rebuilt for about $350, up to about $1400 for a new aluminum cased locker. Yes, you can easily spend $2000 for this swap, but you don't have to.

When you buy the housing and axles, you'll need to know what spline count your going to use. The small size is 28 spline while larger ford is 31 spline. You can get into aftermarket carriers for 35 or 40 spline but they get expensive. I only use 31 spline in my car. That's all I need.

Buy what you need in a center section first, gears, posi etc. Once you have the center section, order the housing and axles.

You can apparently do it fairly easily. You might want to pick up a camaro rear end from a wreckers too so that you can us it to make a template. Use sheet metal to make a template of where all the mounts go. Measure the camaro rear end and then go get the 9 inch. Then just swap the axels in the rearend to get it to the right length. After that use your template to cut of the old mounts camaro mounts and weld them on to the 9 inch. Then just weld your tourque arm on at the correct angle. If you have the equipment it should be a fairly easy swap.

i have a 9" locker with 31 spline axles for sale. 4.11 gear, billet yoke, nodular case. all you need is the housing and torque arm bracket, new was just over 1700, 1000 plus shipping is what i am selling for if you are interested. i am unsure if the 3rd gen rear is the same as a 4th gen housing. axles have 1/2" screw in studs as well.all moser components.

I would buy that if I was rich but I am a poor 16 year old who works at shell and is always broke cuz my money goes into my car. I need a new ****en rad now and I am wanting to put in a big block so if I get a bigger rad then I am good. I still have to make a 9" ford fit though and our schools got a milling machine to cut splines.
