88 RS 2.8 Power Adders

I know its not worth modding, but i love my car... I plan to keep it for awhile and want to do some mods to it... What would be about the best mods to put it at about 200rwhp?? They come with about 135 stock i think mines a lil more... its runs good and strong.. What would some of u suggest i have done to it?? Headers and exhust work? I have about grand to spend on mods if not more...

thirdgen.org in the v6 section and camarov6.com are your best bets
i, myself, think there is no better power adder than a z28 which is why i'll be getting one soon
but, i can vouch for an intake
considering my stock one was the size of the quarter for air to get in and now i have an open filter, it definately made a difference
do some exhaust work (no headers yet that i know of, but there was a strong interest in them getting done by pacesetter- from the thirdgen.org v6er's)
new cat (stock sucks i heard), catback of course (from any v8 of same year will work), and then you could go nitrous oxide if you want (can't remember but i think it was firebirdjosh on camarov6.com said he shot a 75-100 shot on his stock bottom end if i remember correctly)
o, and in camarov6.com, they have a thirdgen mods encylopedia that you can go to for some more ideas
good luck, and trust me, i know the love you have for your car (i'm keeping mine while i get a z28 and am just calling it my 'economy' car )

The bottom end of those motors are not known to handle more than about 250 Hp at the flywheel. They start breaking at about that level. I'd not spray that one and I'd be careful what you do to it.

Otherwise, swap a smallblock in it and keep the car you love.

My thoughts.

well, he's got like 135 fly, so you think about 100 at best att he wheels
so i figure he could spray about 75-100 many a time (like the dude on camarov6.com) and not worry about doing too much damage
and even if he did, he could rebuild or swap in a v8

play with the timing, bumping it a few degrees may give some extra power, run a cooler stat, a DIY cold air/ram air, pull the upper intake and see what kind of porting you can do to it. porting the tpi plenum has proven gains, why not the V6 plenum?

wonder if the 4th gen 3.4l V6 headers would fit on the third gen? that would be worth a try.

and seems like i've seen a cam available in Summit for the 2.8L.

and do roller tip rockers work? you could pick up some stamped, roller tip rockers in a higher ratio to give some more lift

no cat would help or a cutout before the cat, unhook the a/c pully and put on a smaller belt...

a 3.4 swap would tek less time than a v8 and cost less because almost everything swaps over...

http://67.104.247.214/jmb/firebird/home.htm <- some awesome custom fabs....

theres a place in toronto that sells a turbo, and a place in california faegol(sp) that makes screw type blowers...

crane cams makes a variety of cams... may try aluminum head gaskets and plane the heads

i really wouldnt touch it unless you were going to build a nice 6. lighter pistons... could you stroke a 3.4? thatd be cool
