88 Iroc power adders

I am clueless about the 5.7L tune port motors. I have and 96 camaro lt1 now I bought and 88 Iroc z. Would like to know what you guys do to get them running better like exhaust or intake. Would like to know what you have run across. What restricts the car the most. I would like to make it run with my lt1 but don't want to pour in alot of money. any help would be appreciated thanks, shawn

well i have a flowmaster muffler and a custom made 3.5 in pipe and no cat. but for the least amount of money Hedman headers makes shorty headers (no AIR) and y-pipe for 200$. i would make your own cold air(do a search) and i would change to a lt1 intake www.lt1intake.com for better flow than the tpi and i would get the best suspension you can find and 3.73 gears and a posi. if you want to go into the engine(5.7L only) get the lt4 hotcam and put it on rebuilt iron heads(www.larrysperformance.com) that is made to hold hotcam and i would get a stall converter( the higher is better) 2500-2800 stall, but i wouldnt skimp on this!! (get a VILIGANTE for $750 and you can put up to 1200hp and you get a free stall upgrade. JUST MY .02 CENTS this is what i am doing so email me and i will answer you as i am going along

It's pretty much the same with any motor. More air in more air out concept add good fuel and a hot spark "boom" more power.
First do a good tune-up(performance wires plugs, capnrotor button, coil and change the fluids and filters, set timing)
Start at the air inlet either get a cold air setup like SLP's or do the free mod and add a better than paper filter. Airfoil or bigger throttle body, larger runners, better manifold or port your own stuff. Headers,MSD,catback exhaust,Re gear the rear end. And get a Fairbanks piston servo kit for the trans you'll love it.

The biggest restriction on the L98 is the intake. The runners and manifold baseplate create a huge restriction above 4,500 rpm. The cheapest fix is to replace it with a holley stealth ram. Throw a cam in there while you're at it, and it'll probably show your LT1 a thing or two. Add headers and a good catback and you'll be in really good shape, all for under a grand.

If you want to keep it more subtle, you can do high flow runners and base, but that alone will cost as much as a stealth ram.

Here's what made a difference in mine

Maybe SLP cold Air Intake
Definately ACCEL Superram Intakes
Definately Headers
Definately LPE programmed EPROM

If you don't want to take it there and leave it there for a week, someone I use is:
