I have a friend who got a 87 IROC-Z TPI 350 automatic transmission.... what do you guys recommend to have this engine puttin out sum horses??can you guys give some insight?? He has about six hundred dollars to work with...... thanks in advance
I would start with the free mods. Throttle body coolant by pass and gut the air filter box. I would do the lower control arms and panhard bar. A little traction goes a long way. If it doesn't have a air foil and K&N filter I would do those. If it doesn't have a aftermarket cat back do those. A electric cut out is good. Those should get you into the mid to low 14.
Mid 14s are easy to get at just by changing the Chip, Adding an airfoil, Cutting the bottom of the airbox off & adding K&Ns
Heres a site that you can do a homemade Ram air system that no one would know about until you tell them. http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/ramair.shtml

I would skip the air foil. For some reason everybody around here seems to like them, but the air flowing through the throttle body is FAR from the largest restriction that the air will encounter. The runners are such a restriction that an air foil on the throttle body is virtually useless. A stock throttle body can flow enough air to feed an LT4, so it's going to have no problems feeding your L98.
Anyway... I agree that traction is a good idea. Another good idea is headers, high flow cat and a catback exhaust. That alone will eat up the whole $600 budget, but it's a necessity if you plan on doing more mods later.
