Question 87 Iroc value

I have located a 1987 Iroc with a 5.7, t-tops, auto, and 55,000 miles. Originally I was under the impression that it was in running condition, but I was told that it's not due to a flywheel problem. The owner took it in to have the converter worked on and the shop didn't tighten the flywheel bolts down properly. Doesn't sound like a big deal though. Also, it is in need of a paint job, 15 years of summer driving takes a toll I guess.

Now, the good. The interior is spotless. Pretty close to showroom for a 1987.

I have been told to come back Wednesday and make a offer. I don't want to low ball them in anyway, just get a fair deal. What is low mile 350 Iroc, not running, needing paint worth?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is there anything to look for knowing that the flywheel wasn't tighten properly. Could anything else been screwed up that I should take into consideration?

First off, unless theres documentation to support the miles on the car I'd assume that they're 155,000 on a 15 year old car.

I bought mine in the same exact condition for $1300. It ended up needing a transmission

Look at the link in my sig to see how far its come. After paint and a bunch of mods I have over $5000 in it and still have lots to do.

Good luck.

Yeah Mike I thought about the miles. However being from Michigan also, 155000 would mean winter driving for sure. 10,500 miles/year without would be very hard. Looking under the car, there is no evidence of winter driving. Radiator supports aren't rusted, inside rockers, nothing. So, my assumption is 55k is 55k. The car is owned my a older gentleman that no longer wants the car.

You said that you needed a transmission. Were there any signs before you bought the car, or only after it died? Over the winter, I would plan on having the trans and rear end rebuilt stronger anyway, but the cheaper I can get the car, the better.

I bought mine from the 2nd owner and have every receipt from every nut and bolt replaced on the car and records of storage and maintenence. Every year in storage November 1st and back out around the middle of April. Also there were checklists from when it went in and out of storage. Mine has 160,000 miles on it and was NEVER winter driven. Look at it now and it looks like it has 60,000 on it.

Looks can be deceiving.

Those low mileage Camaros are still around, amazingly enough! I saw one recently on www.thirdgen.org. It was an 86 Iroc with 2700 miles on it! No kidding. You should see all the pics the guy posted. He bought it new and has basically kept it in his garage in Florida ever since. It still has EVERY grease mark from factory inspection on it and the plastic seat covers.

We all drooled.

So the car doesn't run and needs paint. $1,000 sounds like a fair offer.

BTW, chet's 2,700 mile IROC is phenominal!!

Well, it looks like i'll continue to look. I stopped by tonight and was told they were thinking in the neighborhood of around $6500/obo. They would fix it before it is sold but once it's running it needs another $3000 or so in paint/bodywork. It also really needs a set of tires. Add it all up and it becomes a $10000 car. No way!

Hey Sitting Bull whats the name of that car at third gen's site? Love to take a look at it. As you said Drool (mmm collectors item)

As for the 87 Iroc. I find it kinda weird that a car with 55000 miles is having flywheel problems. If it were me i wouldnt offer more than 1200 cause new paint and transmission work is big bucks. (Never do one of those cheap *** paints, youll regret it later)
