87 to 88 on up drive belt swap?

i was wondering if it was possible to change my 87 belt assembly that drives the engine to the newer style with the one belt? in 87 the alternator is on the left side when standing in front of the car looking at the engine. the newer style is different as you all know. we have been told that the 87's have charging issues that is supposed to be fixed in the newer years. also, the newer models eliminate some belts. any suggestions would be great.

You can get the brackets from any GM dealer, they aren't cheap though. As far as other parts, you will need a reverse rotation water pump, and a new alternator housing. You will also need the pulleys from a serpentine car. Oh, and if you keep the AC, you will need new hoses cause the compressor will sit on the other side of the car.

Check this out.

Oh, I didn't mean to try to sell you on the GM parts direct kit, it just has all the part numbers and stuff that you need. $1k is quite a bit of money for a stock belt system, you can buy a march kit for less than that.
