4th gen to 3rd gen conversion?

How hard would it be to take a 97 lt1 SS and take all of it except the body and put it in my 3rd gen?

You're gonna chop up a Super Sport?! NOOOO!!! Trade with me and you can gut mine. (Or is it wrecked/totalled?)

There was a post about this a while back, or at least it was about the interior, but has probably been cleaned off the server it's been so long. From what I remember, it will be more of a pain than it's worth (wireing, mounting, etc.). But don't quote me on that.

The drivetrain should drop in with very little modification. This would include everything from the engine to the rearend. The front suspension of the two are quite different (or so I'm told) so there would probably be a significant amount of modification there. As for the interior, your best bet would be to head over to www.thirdgen.org . There are a few that have done it, I believe. Good luck, that would be one heck of a sleeper, although it would seem that it already is.

This isn't "Advanced Tech".... belongs on 3rd Gen Tech. Moving it there.

no, theres nothing wrong with the SS its just im tired of driving the same car as everyone else has, so i want to put it all in the 3rd gen because its pretty nice on the inside and it rides alot better than the 3rd gen..... ill trade you if you want to take the $287 payments for the next 59 months..

Thats a nice idea. But i'm sure it would be as simple as it would appear, not that it appears to be easy. I imagine quite a bit a fabrication would need to be done to switch everything but the bodys. Personally i wouldnt hack up the SS. Only 287 thats not shabby how many miles on it. I might know some takers.

Like I said before, it's not impossible to do what you want to do. But I'm not sure I would take the knife to a 30th anniversary SS. Its your car... do what makes you happy.

Check with your bank to see how they feel about you parting out their car.

If you want to do it that badly, sell your car to somebody that won't butcher it, and buy a damned parts car! It'll save you multiple thousands of dollars, and you won't be butchering a nice car.
