3rd Gen Weight Reduction

An average 3rd gen weighs between 3200 and 3500lbs correct? Formula being the lightest and GTA the heaviest. How much does my RS weigh? No options that would add substantial weight, like power windows, locks, etc.

Other than fiberglass body panels, where is a good place to start reducing weight? How much does the entire AC system weigh? What's the weight difference between leather (non power) and cloth seats? How much do the rear seats weigh? I don't know what else. 17" SS wheels (which I'm dying for) compared to my 16" Aluminums?

Reason: Well tonight I drove my Mom's '03 GTS Eclipse M5. It's sweet, I'll tell you. And it brakes phenomenally, accelerates awesome with it's 215hp V6. I'm thinking/geussing it's because it weighs in the range of 3,000lbs because it's not a high performance car really.

How far do you want to go with weight reduction? A totally stripped race car can be down around 2800 pounds.

Non powered cloth seats are 25 pounds. Complete power option doors are 105 pounds. Manual window doors with the crash bar cut out are 75 pounds. Gas tank is 25 pounds. Carpet and underlay is heavy. Front and rear crash bumbers are heavy. Windshield is 20 pounds, Lexan is 10 pounds. Power steering including steering box, pump, brackets, hoses, oil is heavy compared to a manual steering box.

I wouldn't do the glass fenders. I can't see where they would be any lighter. The stock ones are too thin already.

I saved a little weight with a glass hood but it isn't a lift off so I could have saved more.

Go with a tubular kmember and rack conversion. The member itself isn't much lighter than the stock one but the rack weighs alot less than the box.

My RS with full power, except for seats, and a full tank of gas weighed 3500 lbs.
