3rd gen engine swap questions
3rd gen engine swap questions
hello everyone, my name is James and im new to the boards. Im a student from Pennsylvania. I've actually been reading the boards for quite some time now and have finally decided to start posting because i have a few questions of my own. Well first off, I guess i should let u know what im driving... I have a 1991 camaro RS with the 305 TBI motor, jet black, louvers, edelbrock catback, k&n filter, upgraded plugs/wires, and a set of black and chrome trim 16x8 trans am honeycombs... its a slick ride, i love my camaro its just that the stock motor in that car is pretty ****ty. And i just so happen to have a buddy who is parting out his trans am so i sort of found a new motor for it, but i have a few questions as to what i would need to do in order for it to fit/function properly. But the motor... is a 350/305 heads, weiand intake, not really sure on the rest of it... all i know is that it needs a new carb. Sorry for blabbing i just wanted to let u guys know where everything stands. But now to the main question. What would i need to do to put a 350 carb motor in place of the stock 305 TBI motor? And what would i need to get rid of?, what would i need to add? Someone told me that there are things that i can use from the 305 on the 350, does anyone know what exactly they meant by that? (i was thinking radiator or fan or something)
Thanks for all of your help guys, you'll be seeing more post by me soon

Re: 3rd gen engine swap questions
To do the swap you need
*a carb
*non computer controlled distributor
*a coil if ur distributor doesnt have one that is built in
*and a fuel pressure regulator
Basically it, you have TBI injection which i dont remember the exact psi but its around 15. Carb needs like 5-7 so use a fuel pressure regulator to reach that psi. Thats basically it, as for some parts on a 305 being able to go on a 350. Thats basically for every small block chevy. Cam is the same (not performance wise but fitment wise) intake manifold, heads (be careful if using 350 heads on a 305 the bore of the 305 might be too small for the valve size and it might hit, thing will still bolt on fine tho). So basically except for stroke and bore everything on any small block chevy will bolt onto any other small block chevy. Enjoy the swap.
Also id suggest losing those 305 heads theyre garbage as hell. Find yourself some nice vortecs if you are on a budget.
