350 build up
well, I`m still playing with a 305 and it`s a quick little motor I`m guessin about 250-275 hp I want more, so I`m doin a 350, and I`m wonderin about hp numbers and 1/4 mile times
350 4bolt factory bottem end with new bearings and molly rings dished pistons
Camel back heads with 2.02 1.60`s mildly ported
.480 lift cam ( no idea what the other specs are)
Victor jr intake
Holley/Barry grant 750 DF DP MS
I also have a offy dual port intake and a Performer intake
I should be able to rev to 6500-7000 RPM`s right? my 305 will rev to 6500 all day long and it`s a LG4 (not a factory LG4 though)

I figured 7000 RPM`s because of the intake, a victor jr is a massive single plane intake that makes power like 3500-8000 RPM`s and with my 750 carb I firgured I would have to rev to 6000-7000 for peak power. the intake and carb was for my 383 but at this rate will NEVER be done
. I can build this 350 for less then it would take to finish my 383. I`m lookin at 1200-1500 to build my 350 about the same as the 305 cost me. but I was hopein for more hp then 325, I figured it would be pullin close to 400 with those camel backs.

fade2blk500 is right on the money! My 79 Z28 with the same setup ran high 13s. Those old fuellie heads were hot in their day but they just won't flow any air. You also have dished pistons, low compression. You will need to turn your motor 6800 rpm for the intake and carb which are fine for a 350 that can breath but your heads won't and the cam is way to small. Sell the 350 and the 305 and add that money to your $1500 and build your 383. What parts do you have for the 383? What work is already done on it?

oh well, 325 is still enuff to smoke most rustang`s, The whole reason I bought the camel backs is because everyone says they kick *** and I got a great deal on them I only paid $600 for the pair complete and they go for $1000 most of the time, I couldn`t find camel backs for less then $1000 last summer and I looked EVERYWHERE for them, when I found these I jumped at them, I really thought they where a great head to reach 400+ hp with, and the hi po shop I got them at said I should get 400hp, so I guess I`ll dump the Victor Jr in the corner again and go with the Edelbrock performer with my little 600 holley on my 305 that should make 310hp and have WAY more bottem end.

now because b4 I posted that I was goin to run my 350 with 1.94 1.50 305 heads that have a bowl job and the exhust are ported with my .454 lift cam and my 600 holley with my edelbrock performer and everyone said 300-325hp now I can go with better heads and intake and carb and cam and I`m still at the 325 hp range
, My friends dad has a 5L mustang vert and he said if he goes with the 351 winsor heads with his performer intake and the 650 DP DF MS holley carb he`ll ran 10.9X`s in the 1/4 mile ????? I can`t see that happening but if a 350 with camel backs can`t get me out of the 13`s maybe I should buy a mustang
. oh and his stang is a 84 GT vert with a carb`ed 90 302 roller motor, if he can go that fast without touching his cam with a head change and run 10.9`s I was going for 11`s with my 383 stroker, if I build my 383 and get beat by his 302 I`ll burn my Chevy hats and sell my Zed`s and cross over to the dark side

I ALMOST had a set of 2.08 Iron Bowtie heads for a $1000, I paid $700 then my boss f`ed me over and I couldn`t come up with the $300 to pick them up so I guess I lost them and my money
I also had a .630 lift crane soild roller cam with lifters for $500, I would``ve been in the high 10`s low 11`s and 500+hp

ALL I want is my 383 to be done I`ve been workin on it for almost 4 years now and it`s STILL not done I have $5000 in it so far , So I swear to god if I get beat by a little 302 with a intake and heads when I get my 383 done after I put 7000-8000 into my 383 and he put $1000 into his 302 I`ll get rid of everything Chevy I have and thats sayin alot since my blood is Chevy orange lol, I hate mustangs and have always LOVED Chevy but this 5L guy was a GM guy his whole life there gotta be a reason he switched

First off, it's hard to make any speculations without more detail on the cams. Lift alone means squat. What's intake/exhaust duration @ .050? What's the LSA?
Second, don't compare your car to some guys fox body mustang. I doubt he will go 10s with a stock 302 cam unless the car is gutted or he's spraying it.

As for the cam I diddn`t ask what the specs are he just told me .480 lift thats all I know, I havn`t bought the cam yet but I`m going too maybe?, I`ll call him up and ask what it is

If that rustang dude says he can run 10.XX with a stock cam and 351 heads hes either a moron...or spraying a 350 shot on it.
Cam specs are really needed,but with that lift I dont see the duration being extremely huge.
If it was me,I would sell those camel hump heads and that cam,buy a set of hopped up Vortec heads (used if you can find them just to save a little $$$),get yourself a nice Comp Xtreme Energy cam and go wax that 5.0's *** all day.
