305 TPI Heads

I was wondering if there is any difference between 305 TPI heads and the heads on a carburated 305. I have an 86 Iroc and I want to purchase a set of stock heads and port and polish them so I dont have to pull them out of my car and park it for a while...any help would be much appreciated

I really don't think so but if you want to be absolutely positive, talk to the GM parts guy and have him do a lookup for both cars. This opinion, (like azzholes, everyone has one) is based on the aftermarket selling heads and not mentioning that for this car, use this and that car, use that. That and I think I viewed them a few years back. I might be wrong. Check with the parts guy.

You may want to research the differences between the TPI heads and the 305 HO heads from 1984-1986 that came on the carbureted cars. I think you'll find better head flow on those castings, but I'm not sure how much.

All of the carb heads will be of the perimiter style valve covers, while most of the tpi heads will use centerbolt valve covers....if that any difference to you.

Other than the perimeter/centre bolt style and the intake manifold bolt angles, the heads are identicle. 416 and 601 are the pre-1987 perimeter style and the 081 are the centre bolt/straight angle intake bolt style.

Both styles were used on the TPI engines, as they came out on Camaros in 1985.

IOW, when you get the heads, get the valve covers too.
