Question 305 TBI cooling system

I flushed my cooling system on my 90 RS 305 TBI. My question is, how do I know there are no air pockets? I didn't find any bleed screws anywhere on this thing, did they not have them?? It is not overheating, but it still bugs me not knowing if there are air pockets. What do ya'll think?

Run the engine with the radiator cap off until it gets warm. Then the thermostat will open and coolant will circulate throughout the engine. Let it run like that for 10+ minutes, then stop the engine and check the coolant level in the radiator. Add more if necessary.

i think the reverse cooled design of the LT1 makes it more important to bleed the system.

just the standard method described above should suffice for your engine

Re: 305 TBI cooling system

the only cars that MAY have airbleeds are cars where the radiator is lower than the engine. so the thirdgen does not have one and leavng the radiator cap off isnt neccesary the air will leak out of the overflow tanks by itself while you drive.

Re: 305 TBI cooling system

These older engines in 3rd gens are pretty much self-bleeding of any air pockets. Once the stat opens any remaining trapped air pockets clean themselves out.

I do it just like Kevin describes. I just don't feel satisfied until I've properly "burped" my cooling system. When the stat opens you get a big rush of coolant and air for a second or two and then it settles down and all is normal at that point. Add coolant as necessary to top it off after you "burp" it.
