I have a 88 camaro with a tbi 305 and a turbo 350 tranny, I know the engine isn't much but what can i do to make it run high 14's without changing displacement or getting a cam?

 

headers ,intake , carb all these are cheap and easy bolt on performence building parts a nice set of headers can bump you from 195hp to 225hp a raised intake will give you better high end power and a good carb will help to support it but you only have 195hp if you have a g engine ...if you have a h block then you only have right around 150hp

 

305 TBI's never had 195hp. I think 88's were about 170

 

get some gears out back and a stall for that TH350. Create some high end power to use the gears... like said, raised intake and a good carb and get your exhaust setup w/ lots of flow and you should see good times.

 

pull the heads, cam, intake, injection, etc, well if you're going that far might as well drop in a 350 then. the TBI 305 heads suck, you could get some 305 TPI heads, port them and add 1.94 valves to them and put in a bigger cam as well. definately headers and a 3" catback

 

Some simple motor bolts ons (intake, headers, full exhaust), a custom tune, and good car prep will easily put you into the 14's.

This 305 ran hard and never missed a beat. In 1-2 days work you can also have a 14 sec 305 TBI. The heads and cam were the hardest part and even they werent HARD. Good luck.

 

BTW the gears made the biggest difference in NOTICABLE power.

Custom tuning can make a huge difference in the way a TBI car runs.

No, that was with no tune on it whatsoever. The only thing was that it idled a little rough. Man you could feel the cam come in at around 2500 RPM.

 

With the following I've turned a 14.2. It could do better with out the autocross suspension setup.

SR Torquer 305 heads
Performer Intake
LT1 cam
Headers and exhaust
Open element air cleaner
8 degrees advance on timing
Custom prom tuning
Stock TBI
AC and AIR delete
3.42 gears and posi

It's dynoed 225 rwhp.
