I need an engine for an IROC-Z

It doesn't have to be pristine condition or even new, it just needs to run with generally no problems. Where should I look or what vendors should I check?

I don't want it for performance at all. Just as a commuter.

To be more specific, I am looking for a 305 5.0L V8. But If you have an alternative that would be appropriate for an IROC, let me know. Please help! Thanks.

you can pretty much use a 305 out of anything GM has made. A 350 would pretty much be a direct swap.

Are you looking for NEW or just new for you, Id check the local junk yards, most offer a 30 day warranty

Thanks for replying. I just want it in good running condition. Labor is going to be very expensive so I'm trying to balance the costs out by going out and getting my own engine as opposed to from a mechanic shop.

Blue89Bird, what do you think is a reasonable price for an engine rebuild?

The only thing the owner told me was that he restored the top part and the engine miss-fires because he messed up with the timing. That's the only reason he gave. I don't even know if a rebuild is necessary, but I want to match it up with the new transmission that was installed. What do you think Jason?
