3.73 posi install , help!!!!

So I mulled it over and went and got the 3.73 posi. Now having said that. does anyone have a document on installing them and setting them up. My good friend says if they are too tight they explode, and if they are too loose they will wear fast. There is some kinda play that needs adjusting. He also said you need to mix posi fluid with the gear oil, does that make sence??? It's supposed to condition the oil for a posi setup........

you gotta have special tools to install gears. your better off taking it to a shop to have it done professionally.

I agree.....if you haven't done it before it's not something to mess with. It's too easy to have a few thousandths too much shim and end up killing your gears after 4 months.

If you set the pinion depth and have the correct backlash on the ring gear, you can install it. But by your posts, you don't know what you are doing and just assembled everything.
How if you think you know it all, just put the carrier assembly in the axle and say to yourself good job. Just take it for a test drive.

To do it right, you have to put it together and take it apart a few times using different color marker to set the wear pattern.
My friend who does gears on the side for dealers and performance freaks like ourselves takes a couple of hours doing a rear to make sure everything is set right.
Best to have someone that knows gears show you how to do it, and if you get the hang of it, you can make some decent money doing it on the side.

Guessing from your pics I assume you have a removable center section on your rear end, like a ford. If so you really don't need to set your lash since they are already installed in the center section. If not take it to a pro because it will not last long if it's not perfect.
