2.8 gettin the boot,305 going in
Hey,
As the topic says my trusty old 2.8 is hopefully getting taken out of my car in place of a 305.I'm getting the 305 from a friend for a price i cant refuse.I plan on giving the engine a rebuild but before i go ahead and get the engine i was wondering a few things and was hoping you guys might be able to help me out.
My car had the 700R4 tranny in it.I was wondering if the 305 would directly bolt up in place of the 2.8(the engine is from a mid 80's car and my car is an 85 camaro)I've been told by a few people that it will directly drop in place and i've been told by others i will need a new bellhousing, drive shaft, and motor mounts to make it work.
I will be replacing the rear end with a posi-track.

The 2.8 is a 60* motor, and the 305 is a 90* motor. Completely different transmission bellhousing, and since the bellhousing isn't removable from an automatic trans, you need the whole transmission.
You also need the coil springs, radiator, motor mounts, all accessories and accessory brackets, plus the full induction of whatever type you choose. You need to change almost everything to go to a V8. It's a major project even if you have a full V8 parts car there. Without one, you'll never get it accomplished.
To go through all that work to just put a 305 in is crazy. Any stock carbed 305 except the L69 is hardly any more powerful than the 2.8. I would strongly reconsider the swap. For the major expense you're going to encounter, you could just couple that with the money you get from selling your car and buy one with a nice TPI v8 already.

That is rather unfortunate.I really dont want to sell my car because i spent most of last summer fixing it up with my dad and adding custom touches here and there.
That thing that really gets me mad right now is i think the 2.8 might be on it's last legs right now.
Now i gotta change loads of stuff
