1987 starting problems

My car just died on me it wont even start. I drove it about half a mile to mcdonalds get my food and try to start it and it wouldnt start. I tried to jump start it but the battery was fine. I had some one look at it and they think it mayb be 1 of two things: the engine coil, or engine module? any ideas???? Thanks

Which engine do you have?

Are you getting spark?

Are you getting fuel?

Re: 1987 starting problems

check to see if the batt. voltage is ok. if it is,then it could be the starter.

Re: 1987 starting problems

the voltage is fine. like i said we tried the jump start nothing , but i figure if its the starte it would give it some wat of a start but its just a dead silent click, so i figure its better money wiseto start with the oil but thatnks for the suggestion

Re: 1987 starting problems

There are 2 wires to the starter. One of them is a solenoid and the other is the positive cable. If you crank it, you should have 12V at the solenoid wire. If you don't have that, you have a problem with the ignition all the way from the key to the starter which includes the starter relay, wiring and neutral safety switch. If you have 12V at the solenoid wire when you turn the key and 12 V at the positive cable then you have a bad solenoid. Take starter out and test it. If that comes out good then the culprit is the positive cable.
