1986 Computer controled
help 1986 z28 HEI Ignition
I just bought a 1986 Z28 with a 4 barrel. Problem is half of the emmisions have been removed, so when you get on it hard it cuts out when it shifts into 2nd at about 3000 unless you feather the throtle a bit. I think the computer has the timming all off due to the emmisions
. What can I do to fix this, can I just throw a vacuum adv. HEI distributor at it and get rid of the puter? Also I have eliminated the cut out a bit by retarding the timming to about 11deg btdc. Also what controls the tach is it ran off of the distributor or some fancy computer program?

Re: 1986 Computer controled
Yea I think you can put a regular vacuum advance dist. in it and dump the computer controlled timing.
But just b/c some of the emissions stuff is gone wont make the car run like ****. The computer doesnt control any of the emissons stuff.
The tach wire goes to the negative side of the coil, and if its an HEI dist.,then it has its own plug in for the tach.
Hope that helps.
