Post Is a 1986 Camaro any good?

I just bought a 1986 camaro with a V8 and a 5 spd in replacement of my 91 Firebird (it was in an accident) and I notice that it really isn't as powerful as my 91 (it was also a V8 but an auto)
So does anyone know the hourse and torque specs on the camaro, no offence, but is it worth putting back together?
Its not a Z/28 or Iroc, just the base model, I bought it because where I live, everyone and their mother has an Iroc or Z/28 from the 80's, and I wanted something original ^_^

But again, anyone know the specs on it, any help would be good.

Thanks

It's a 150 hp 305. The motor is a pooch, but there's nothing stopping you from dropping a 350 or larger in its place.

Thanks for the info, anyone know where to get a cheap 350?
I don't mean cheap as in quality (of course) just a nice price, nothing more then I paid for the car itself ($2300)

If you put a 350 in, you would still put on headers, cam, intake and heads, no?

If the 305 is in good condition, do the same. Now you will have a 300 hp 305 that will cut low 14s in the quarter. And all those parts fit perfectly on the 350 when your 305 gives up.

That is the most intelligent and cost effective way of building up any 3rd gen with a 305.

Most people find that 300 hp for tooling around keeps them quite happy

Yea, I would fix up my 305, but where would I start?
I have a 4 berral Quadrajet, should I go with holley or eldelbroch as a carb?

would that be a good start?

I don't know where to start and where to end.

Headers and full exhaust is absolutely the first thing. Hooker or Heddman 1 5/8 shorties, or SLP stainless steel, if you can afford them. 3 inch intermediary pipe from the y-pipe to the muffler. 3 inch inlet on hi performance muffler to two 2 1/2 inch outlets. Hooker even makes an entire exhaust for this, which is a good way to go.

Either port and polish the stock heads with the Standards Abrasives kit, or buy a set of GM Vortecs or World S/R 305 heads.

At the same time add a good intake like a Weiand Stealth or Edelbrock Performer. The QJet is a fine carb, just go to www.thirdgen.com and look in their Tech Articles for how to tune it.

Then add a Comp Cams XE 256 or Crane PowerMax 266 hydraulic cam.

This should have you pulling 275 to 300 hp and low 14s in the quarter.

This all fits on a 350 perfectly when that time comes.
