180cc heads on a 355

I found a real good deal on a set of Dart Iron Eagle 180cc runner/64cc chamber heads. How will a 355 like these heads? Will they choke it much? I will be running a heavily ported TPI setup.

Actually I think the smaller runner will kinda complement the TPI's low-end torque nature. Give them a little smooth-work and port match them and they'll probably run pretty well.

Just don't expect any power at all above 5k.

Well, the Vortech's are only 170cc, and you know how they flow, and the Vette Aluminum heads are only 163cc, Bow Tie's = 184cc.
And the conservtive runners will maitain good velocity(air speed)keeping good throttle response and as said, low speed torque, but still breath better on top...
So the 355 should love'em!..

What do you expect your car to run when the motor is in? Looks like we're running close to the same setup. Would you recommend the ZZ4 cam to me? I haven't looked much into cams for this motor yet. Daily driver. Thanks

Well, With those heads I'd go a little bigger, probably the "LT4 Hot Cam"...
279*/287*
218*/228*@.050"
.495"/.495"@1.5 ratio aprox.
.525"/.525" @ 1.6 ratio
112*LSA
Run the 1.5 rocker 'til you see how it behaves as a daily driver, but people I know here that run the HC, 1.6's + better heads, say they LOVE the cam!...I will upgrade my cam when I decide to go bigger heads.
*So, with the HOT CAM, 1.6's, Dart IE 180 heads + 2400-2600 stall + 3.42(daily driver)3.73(weekend warrior)...I would say "mid 12's" with traction shouldn't be hard!...a little tuning and more traction and low 12's aren't outta range!...

Cool, I've been considering the Hotcam.

You're kidding.

Don't forget I'm running a 6-speed. I also ordered a 3.73 gear package from Thunder last week. So you really think 12's are attainable? SWEET. I was anticipating low 13's. Man I hope you're right

I would check into a clutch upgrade then, like a "Centerforce" or HD ones like "Hayes", "RAM", "Zoom", etc...
You'll need some LCA relocator brkts, for traction and a lot of practice launching it but you can get there...

Gasket match the lower TPI manifold to the heads, make sure you get a gasket that matches the heads openings. And just clean up any real obstructions inside the base. Ofcourse the worst is behind the throttle blades, take time to get it perfect here..
I ran high 13's with the stock long-block(heads,cam,intake,block)
There's NO reason you shouldn't hit 12's with tuning...Ofcourse if you need help, I'll still be here..GOD willing..
