[Tires] So whats the story w/ the Pirelli tires?
I checked out a ton of pics I have saved of up close of the tires. Almost everyone I looked at had just plain P-Zeros. I did see a few with P-Zero Nero, but only a few. I did see the one SS that was driven down from Canada to Florida had the Scorpion snow/ice tires on it, but that obviously was done on purpose and they are not factory tires.
Except with the GY's F1 SC's they are not sticky and they only have 6/32's tread depth and a 220 tread wear rating. If driven normally these tires will actually net an easy 12k-15k miles but they just don't perform. I've never seen a real performance tire from another tire manufacturer come with a tread depth of 6/32's. All that I have seen have at least 8/32's. I think the biggest factor regarding tread life is the tread wear rating and not the depth although it obviously contributes. If you spend some time over at CF in the Z06 section you will find that next to nobody is replacing their GY's with GY's. Most are opting for Michelin's or Nitto's.

As for tires being sticky, there is lateral grip, forward bite, and adverse weather. Eagle F1's were in no way a drag tire, and people used to complain about them at the drag strip. My Michelin XGT Z4's had great lateral grip, were great in the rain, but could not put the power down for drag racing.
I remember back in '99 a lot of handling tests in magazines were finding that Goodyear, Pirelli, Dunlop, Yoko's and the like weren't performing as well as cars with BFGoodrich g-force tires. Cars like the Cobra R were achieving 1.01 lateral G with those tires and weren't able to do it with other tires. I'm sure in 10 years everyone else has caught up, but why not go with the BFG g-force?
Here's a list of ratings based on performance and longevity from Tire Rack, just to browse.

tire manufacturers are gonna have to step up their game because I was looking through the oe and replacement size options(315/35/20 for example) and not much car performance tires to choose from yet. Most of the tires Im putting on crossover vehicles like X5, Murano/FX35(45). I did notice though that with the bolt pattern and tire sizes that an X5 wheels with 20 inch package should bolt right up, and that rear is a nice fat tire too. Could probably find those used for a good price
Pirelli is bringing winter fitments for the Camaro meeting the load index rating and in the right sizes. Scorpion Ice and snow which is a good winter tire used on many euro cars 245/55/18, 245/50/19, 245/45/20 and 275/40/20. They are available as we speak.
I asked my local dealer about the stock summer 20 and 21 inch option in the PZERO he says that it is one of the top tires in the world, it comes on basically every exotic car in the world. Lambo, Ferrari, Bentley, etc.
