Discount Tire has sizes listed under 2010 SS now. They have P-Zeros for $235 for the rear. Make sure you're looking at the right Pirelli's. I think the Scorpions and Rosso's are around $400, but that's not what the car is coming with. Now if I could just get an insurance quote from someone...

That is not too bad then. I guess it all depends on where you look. I was just looking at the base P-Zeros, not the Scorpions or the Rossos. I still would like to look into run flat tires instead, maybe the GY Supercar EMTs like on the C6 Z51 and Z06. They are a little bit more expensive but IMO are worth it for the extra security and peace of mind.

Scorpion series from Pirelli are for trucks.
The 20's get P Zero Rosso's. They used to be on the Cobalt SS/SC cars.
The Goodyear F1 SC's cost a lot because they are run flats.
Tire rack has the Rosso's listed as OE on a Porsche and for 377 a pop. Man, thats gunna be an expensive tire change.

i dont plan on driving mine in the snow either. probably not even the rain.

I hadn't seen that anywhere. Just that they were P-Zero. Are you sure?

I understand that, but what would make them worse?

well, theres a reason they make snow tires, summer tires, all season tires. its in the tread pattern, for traction.

Sorry, I thought we were comparing summer tire to summer tire.

GM cars often lose comparison tests because other cars come with Michelins, Bridgestones, Dunlops, and Pirellis, and the GM cars come with Goodyear.

Goodyear makes a number of good tires, but they never seem to be the ones GM uses.

I, for one, am happy that the ZR1 uses the Michelins, and I'm looking forward to see how the Pirellis perform.

They're actually P Zero Nero's.

i was just saying why i thought the pirelli summer tires on the 20" would be bad in the snow. even if we are comparing the summer tire to summer tire, i dont think a summer tire would perform very well in the snow.

They're fine for daily driving, but under more demanding conditions, they don't measure up to the Michelins.

The Michelins are extremely expensive, but they're worth every penny. I'll be putting Pilot Sport PS2's on my car the next time I need tires.

Except with the GY's F1 SC's they are not sticky and they only have 6/32's tread depth and a 220 tread wear rating. If driven normally these tires will actually net an easy 12k-15k miles but they just don't perform. I've never seen a real performance tire from another tire manufacturer come with a tread depth of 6/32's. All that I have seen have at least 8/32's. I think the biggest factor regarding tread life is the tread wear rating and not the depth although it obviously contributes. If you spend some time over at CF in the Z06 section you will find that next to nobody is replacing their GY's with GY's. Most are opting for Michelin's or Nitto's.
