wiper motor replacement
Day before yesterday it rained and my wipers for some reason stopped in the middle of the windshield when turned off instead of returning to the cowl as it's parked (off) position. Repeated attempts to turn them on and off resulted in the same thing. Read many message board posts that this was a sign that the wiper motor was going though it still worked. Went to Autozone this morning and bought a new motor. Swapped it out no problem. A simple Hayne's manual, 30 minute, 2 beer job; but now the wiper transmission arms keep popping off the new motor! It's a plastic ball and socket connection for both trans arms.
Tore everything apart.... again... and re-attached everything.... 3 times.... with several explicatives.... Everytime I try my wipers one of the trans arms pops off the motor again.
My questions to yall are:
Am I not popping them down onto the ball tight enough possibly? or is it that the plastic sockets at the end of the trans arms are worn out and no longer holding?
I've looked online for replacement plastic bushings but no luck. It seems my only option is to replace the entire wiper transmission assembly??? Several sites, including ebay motors list used ones for sale but wouldn't that just put me right back where I am now with old bushings?
Is it possible just to replace the plastic socket bushings (new) and does anyone know where I could score some? If any of you have dealt with this I'd appreciate your opinon. Thanks! Chris cmgillespi@aol.com
