Current domestic GM V6 engine displacement ranges from the Saab/Holden 2.8L Turbo up to the old 4.3L Small Block. Obviously the 4.3L is the only V6 in that family, but is the 2.8L related to anything else we have? Aren't the 3.5L and 3.9L in the same family? The Buick 3.8L is obvious. Are the 3.6L engines related to any other engines?

The 4.6L Northstar was roughly based on morphing the 3.4L DOHC V-6 into a V-8

I think this covers most of them.

 

So the High Feature family includes the LP9, LLY, LY7, and whatever the 3.0L DI turns out to be called.

I'm surprised that the LP9 isn't more powerful. It should be making closer to, or over, 350hp instead of only 280. Maybe it uses less boost than the LNF? If the LP9 made the same specific output as the LNF or at least close, then it would be a great engine for the Camaro.

 

Maybe the vehicle application calls for an emphasis on fuel economy over all-out power??
