Insurance is different state to state. In some states, liability insurance is completely, AFAIK, based on number of cylinders...dumb but it is what it is...

Hear, hear!

Consider this:

On average, a car loses 33% of its value in the first three years, maybe more. (My Avalanche lost 50% in 2 1/2 yrs.). During that time, if you can save $300/month, you will have an additional $7200 cash in two years to afford your car. A $36,000 2SS should be down to $25,000 street value in two years. So, with that additional $10,000 of depreciation, coupled with your additional $7200, your 2010 2SS should be very affordable if you can wait two years, and can deal with the car having 10,000 to 25,000 miles on it when you pick it up. You might have to hunt around if you have a specific option combination in mind. However you should probably be able to get close.

Be patient, and buy what you want.

1st, the V6 is a super car (no not a supercar). It is fast, smooth, reasonably economical. It is a lot of fun to drive the V6.

That being said, if you truly want a V8 then stretch or save a bit more. You don't want to be getting in to your Camaro every day with the first thought being, "man I wish I had a V8".

So it really depends on the reasons for getting the Camaro. If all you want is a hot looking, quick, great handling, great riding car, then the V6 will do just fine. But if you need to feel the extra thrust on occasion, hear the deeper exhaust on occasion and brake with Brembos on occasion, then it probably won't "scratch that itch"

Don't buy a car based on what other people think. Thats a big mistake many people do and they get a car they don't want. If you want the V6 go get it. It looks amazing its pretty fast and its an all around good car.

My $.02 is if you want the V8 really bad.... wait. Soon there will be second hand camaros and dealer price cuts.

I actually have an example, my trailblazer is only 3 years old. My lease ended on it when gas was at $4.25 (early summer 2008) dealer took off $10k so I decided to buy it after my lease. All in all i spend $19k ($9k from lease for 3 yrs and $10k to purchase) the cars MSRP was $30k new.

Definitely save your money and hold off a bit. When something we want comes around we want it right away. If you give it some time you may feel otherwise or have enough money to get exactly what you want.

I was in the same boat I have been ripping my mind up going back and forth over the V8, V6. I have read all the comments on here multiple, multiple times so much so that it is almost like I am looking for a reason not to get the V6. I felt the same way that everyone was going to look down on the V6 like some kind of plagued leper. Then I did my research on the car and Engine. The V6 Camaro is no joke unlike the V6 mustang that’s a joke a huge joke as a matter of fact. Then there is the Challenger which I find interesting no one has commented on the V6 in the Challenger SE. If I was going to buy the Mustang or the Challenger there wouldn’t even be a V6 option in my head. 250hp on 4000lbs Challenger that thing is already like driving a Dodge Ram pick up not really like driving a muscle car. The Camaro however I have driven the 2ss and the 2lt and I have to say I am 100% with three on this one.

I am getting the V6 tossing on some aftermarket mods and then I am set! The extra 6-8gs I am saving on the V6 = mods and window tinting!!! Now I also do agree with king Moose ss as well. If you truly want the V8 then go for the V8 you’re investing a good portion of money into this car so you really should get what you want even if it means waiting a bit longer for it.

I don’t know if this will help or not but you might also want to look in to the “Cash for clunkers” it’s a bill that is being passed right now. If the bill passes and you qualify for it the government will give you 3,500 to 4,500 off the price of the new car at the time of purchase. Also if you wait a bit longer dealers will be selling below MSRP. Just some food for thought, I don’t know if it helps I hope it does though! Let me know what you end up with.
