2010 v6 knock/tick

my girlfriend has a 2010 v6 camaro...the other day i took it to dealer to get oil changed but they were to busy so i did it myself. as i drained the old oil that was over used it only had 2 quarts of oil in it. i did the oil change with castrol 5-30 fully synth.(6 qts, ac delco filter) and now wen the car is started after sitting for a little while there is some knocking noise for like 2 seconds and then quiets down to a tick. you can only really hear it at idle. any ideas on wat this might be? thnaks

Running the vehicle with only 2 quarts of oil in the engine could be harmful to the engine and I would suggest setting up an appointment with your dealership so they can take a look at it to make sure nothing was harmed while it was run this way. They should then be able to diagnose the knock/noise issue that the vehicle has developed. I hope that helps and if you continue to have issues let me know and I'll do what I can to help you.

It only had 1/3 the required amount of oil in it? OUCH...that may have hurt it. Is there a leak anywhere that you know of?

I know what the problem is! You were just driving the car one day and noticed that it started knocking! It was at that time that you decided to take it to the dealer to see what was wrong. Never have you noticed that there was only 2 quarts of oil in the engine. Must be a warranty issue. Too bad.

No reason to bust the guy! The big question is why did the car use 2/3's its oil? My wife has a 2011 V-6 and you can bet we'll be watching it! She changes the oil when the sensor says 20% life and uses Mobil1, no unusual engine noises.

Lol, I was not busting him. I am just saying I would take it to the dealer and act like I did not notice it, as they could probably work some warranty magic for him. I am curious though as well.

I have a 2010 V6, with 91 thousand on her, just the other day I was leaving work and was still in the parking lot and it slung a rod through the block, after days of battling the dealership about who was going to pay for it, I called GM Head Quarters and they agreed it was a defect in the motor.
