slight knock/ticking sound

2000 t/a m6, 50k miles. lid, ported stock maf, cutout.

i noticed this today.

as the rpm drops from a neutral rev (2500-3000), i hear a slight knock/ticking sound coming from the front of the car. i also reved by hand on the throttle and could hear it as the rpms were dropping.

and when accelerating semi-hard in first gear, there's a slight ticking.

the car or transmission also shakes when engaging the clutch from first gear.

yesterday i went to the track and missed 2nd gear, overreved while doing so, and grinded because it didn't go in. i think i remember seeing the tach go a little past the 6k mark. the rest of that run, i felt a slight stutter or maybe a misfire around 5k rpm when i got on it again. but only once.

no ses lights or anything.

i changed the oil today too, and used 10w30. and usually use 5w30.

could i have bent a rod? could it be the oil?

Re: slight knock/ticking sound

Ported stock maf is probably causing a lean condition = detonation = knock = KR =less timing = less power. It did on mine and many others. Put a stock MAF in and leave it alone.

But...these engines are aluminum, you're going to hear more internal noises.

Possible bent pushrods?

Re: slight knock/ticking sound

upon closer inspection, i noticed the engine belt was slipping off the tracks on the top left, and top right. it was about 1/3 off.

put it back in place and that seem to have fixed the problems i was having.

*whew*

question now is why did it slip off?

Re: slight knock/ticking sound

moisture or a tensioner I'd bet. Keep an eye on that belt.
