The Z/28's benchmark should be.....
One of my concerns is keeping vehicles within reach cost wise for the consumer.
There are technolgical approaches which help achieve performance goals, be it MPG, or MPH, or handling. Many are quite expensive. Many can result in a lackluster and undersirable vehicle.
I think cars like Camaro have been and are about affordable performance.
If the proposal becomes law it will be what it will be. I just hope that the resulting products will appeal to consumers. Be it performance wise or cost wise.
I also hope some consideration is given by rule makers and politicians on the likely cost to jobs here on the manufacturing side, for the manufacturers or the suppliers, or more importantly to the consumer.
Some things are far easier and cheaper to say than do.

My bigger concern, I suppose, is for this upcoming Camaro. As an outsider, it seems to me, that this car was designed with the old CAFE rules in mind. I know the way CAFE mpg is measured, is abit looser than EPA mpg, and they will have different mpg goals for vehicle 'footprints', giving larger cars a slight advantage over smaller ones. But even with LOTS of Ecotec Camaros, it's going to be tough for this particular Camaro to remain CAFE nuetral by '11 - and WAY tougher every year after that.
Maybe I'm wrong...

No I don't own a Mustang, but I am watching their developments with interest. I can't help but think that next year's 5.0L Track Pack will be an attractive package.
But what has really captured my imagination are the upcoming GT350 and Boss models. The rumors are that both are being tuned for world class handling. The GT350 from Shelby would have a 400+ hp 3.5L Ecoboost V6, the Boss a higher output, (GDI?) 5.0L. BOTH of these models seem to target enthusiasts like me. It would be a shame if Chevy isn't able to create a REAL Z/28 to compete here, and the next closest thing comes from Ford.
