The Z/28's benchmark should be.....
hey, im just happy that the car is back. for the last 7 years, there has been nothing. and now we have something. dont get all pissy because its not what you want or what you think people wont want. this is a brand new car that just came back. give them a break.
Hey, don't get "all pissy" that you asked me a direct question and I answered you...
No I don't own a Mustang, but I am watching their developments with interest. I can't help but think that next year's 5.0L Track Pack will be an attractive package.
But what has really captured my imagination are the upcoming GT350 and Boss models. The rumors are that both are being tuned for world class handling. The GT350 from Shelby would have a 400+ hp 3.5L Ecoboost V6, the Boss a higher output, (GDI?) 5.0L. BOTH of these models seem to target enthusiasts like me. It would be a shame if Chevy isn't able to create a REAL Z/28 to compete here, and the next closest thing comes from Ford.

Here's something just posted on GMI from a trusted source:
Even with the new block, the GT500 is somewhat of a tank.
The next really fun Mustang (to me) will be what is tentatively known as the Shelby GT350. 425-450hp in a tuned version of the 3.5L twin turbo, a plugged-in IRS, weight between the V6 and GT model, and price midway between the GT and the next GT500.
However, now it's no longer clear when this will debut. SVT is working on a new special edition Mustang called the "Boss", which by my estimate will be a massaged 5.0 (Boss 302... lol with me), with lots of weight-savings measures taken, and a very spartan interior. Still a big DOHC aluminum V8 up front though, and probably have the expected macaroni and cheese yellow paint available.

2011 Z- 28 should be..
It should be a lighter weight car than 2SS... it should run on all 8 cyls all the time... it should have an autom trans that bangs shifts like a pro stocker... it should corner (almost) as good as porsche 911... it should be all motor (no blower)..it should have have motor between 375 and 427 cu in...it should have a rear screw of around 4.11....it should have factory exhaust that sounds brutal...... GM can do this ...price it at 42k and the people will grab it...
Blowing a V8 is almost overkill on a road car so I don't think there'd be too much interest in which car will be quicker because both cars (from respective makes) will be blindingly quick.
Perhaps its a hood clearence issue??????, but here a 6.2 based derivitive in a Mustang

Also, I thought any of Ford's N/A stuff was just going to be port injected rather than GDI, only the Ecoboost stuff was going to get GDI?

I really find that hard to believe? I'm not kocking on ya SS, but that would mean Ford's 6.2 is wider than a Boss 429 (which will fit just fine) or the 5.4 S/C which is just as wide.

I remember reading somewhere recently (as yesterday?) that the "6.2L won't fit (just)" ... was the quote but I don't recall reading an explanation on exactly how it won't fit. I can't even remember where I read this but as usual on most things Ford related, I stand corrected.
EDIT: Btw, bossco, I heard the 429 would fit into the Mustang only if the engine bay were stretched. See here. Is that correct?
EDIT: Btw, I found the link about the 6.2L's packaging concerns posted by user, MN12Fan... http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums...hp?t30854.html
