What should the LS7 Super car be called
What should the LS7 Super car be called
There is alot of SS Z28 arguing going on but Z28 SS arent the only top dog nameplates.
There is the Z28 1LE which is essentially what the origional Z28 was. Also there is the ZL1 COPO
Which one should be the 500 HP Camaro super car? This would command 40-50 grand and remember putting an SS or Z28 nameplate on it may put it out of your price range. So whats your top dog opinion.
Im going with ZL1 to keep in line with the Z06 Z theme. Even though the ZL1 was the 427 Big Block, it was the closet thing to the Shelby in the 1st Gen

Re: What should the LS7 Super car be called
ZL1 was also used on Corvette back in the day as well (well, 2 or them I believe, but anyhow) so IMO the top dawg Camaro should carry a Camaro specific name like Z/28.
You know this poll runs the risk of starting yet another Z28 vs SS war

Re: What should the LS7 Super car be called
Well you know they called them ZL1 Camaros and Corvettes because......they had ZL1's in them. The Z06 on the other hand was an old RPO that they dug up, w/ an LS6/7...so I don't know. I voted ZL1 just because it sounds cool, but since ZL1 was an acutal engine, and Z06 was not, it would seem odd to name a car after an engine that it doesn't have. Even though I voted for ZL1, I really would like something new, and if not, then Z28.
Re: What should the LS7 Super car be called
ZL1 would be perfect. Z28 should be affordable like it always was. A 500hp LS7 powered Z28 isnt going to be affordable, at least for 90%+ of Camaro buyers. The Camaro supercar badge is best left to ZL1. Just because it wasnt Camaro specific due to 2 Corvettes carrying the badge is irrelevant.
Re: What should the LS7 Super car be called
There were several recent ZL1 Camaros that didn't have a ZL1 engine....The monster ZL1 that Jon Moss built had a 572ci crate motor in it, and GMMG did the ZL1 Supercar Camaros with Berger.
If a Camaro had an LS7, it would have to be called a ZL1.

Re: What should the LS7 Super car be called
GM recently released a ZL1 heritage crate motor based on a 454cid aluminum big block. There were a limited number and each was sequentially numbered. The original ZL1s were aluminum 427cid big blocks.
Do you see where I'm going with this? The LS7 is a 427 in displacement only. It is still a small block Chevy. A large displacement small block Chevy, sure; but its not a big block and any car that it rides in, should not be given the ZL1 distinction.
Leave the ZL1 to history folks, for our children's sake.
P.S. FWIW, Even though I'm a diehard Z/28 is top dog guy; I'd rather see it called "SS" before its called "ZL1".

I prefer Z/28's, but am kinda torn. I do think ZL1 would be fitting. I know its' not a big block, but it does have 500+HP, and is 427 cu. in., and is all alum., like the original ZL1.

Re: What should the LS7 Super car be called
ZL1 (or something new)
You guys are gonna throw a huge curveball in the direction of the former average Joe/Jane Z28 buyer if you take it out of affordability rance. RS and SS price and positioning be damned. It'll still just sit odd with the buying public (read: not the gearheads like us, but those other MAJORITY that actually make up new car sales).
That SS vs Z28 garbage you guys debate about is all just vanity anyway. .... cause we all know SS is the top of any model line
