whats with the constant bashing of the challenger? is someone a bit insecure about their feelings towards the camaro that they have to bash the competition to make themselves feel better?

i like both cars and i havent made up my mind on which one to get, but this childish behavior is getting old around here.

 

i LOVE the camaro, and cant stand the 69 challenger that has been remade with current standards.

I think that some people are just getting tired of the constant hero worship that the Challenger is getting........... by some............ when they always fail to acknowledge that the car is going to be VERY heavy.

In other words, many Mopar nuts talk like the 6.1 Challenger (425hp) is going to be gods gift, that will lay to dust the likes of anything as lowly as a 400hp Camaro, or even a 475hp Mustang GT500........ despite its girlish figure (all 4160lbs of it).

Spend some time on a mopar forum, and see what I mean. According to some, the Challenger is the second coming of Christ, that will destroy Ford GT's and Ferrari's.

I know, some get carried away. But it really does get silly. It will be a nice car, as will the Camaro......... as will the "who knows what it will be at that time" Mustang.

 

the reason i asked, is i know the Charger SRT-8 weighs in at 4160 lbs.. while the VIN didn't look like a real Vin.. the CHA could be Challenger or Charger.. the 06 Chargers are out..

i wasnt sure if the first symbol in the "vin" was an O or D.. the bottom two lines of the E are connected, doesnt really look like an E, but not a 6 either..

Funny how the word HEMI does that, erases probably a 700 pound difference in weight. Then again I wonder if one in ten of these hemi guys really knows why a hemi works?

Those who think the 09 Camaro will weight in at 3400 or 3500lbs are dreaming.

 

Maybe it is actually you who is childish because you can't concieve why people are bashing the Challenger so much.

There are two main reasons (in my view):

1.) The body style
The Challenger looks EXACTLY like it did in 1970. It is completely Retro. No some people hate this, some people like this, and some don't care.

2.) The weight.
Like the Charger the Challenger is going to be a porker, and the picture of the VIN also shows that the Challenger might actually weigh 4160 pounds. You probably understand that the more wieght a car has the more inertia it has. This decreases in performance, and therefore the car requires more power, which requires stronger parts, more power requires more fuel (in traditional gasoline engines. Therefore I can find an obious reason why many people would not like the car, since it may probably surpass four thousand pounds.

Thirdly I would like you to ponder what people's reaction to the 5th Gen Camaro would be if it looked EXACTLY like the First Gen Camaro AND weighed 4160 pounds. I believe that the reaction would be of dissapointment to some (perhaps many).
All in all I see a good reason why many people are bashing the Challenger. Personally I do not bashing it myself, but I do see a good reason why people do not like it, and I do not by all means find them child like for belieing so.
