VVT + Direct Injection + OHV 3.9L = 300hp?

What would that do to Camaro's engine line-up?

Yeah, Toyota and VW also have DI engines. The Lexus IS250 and 350 have DI engines, and make a lot of power. The new BMW engines have it as well, and the 2.0T motor in the Jetta/Golf/Passat all have DI.
Ecotecs will get it, and im sure the HFV6's will start rolling out with it soon.
This brings up a good question, and one that I keep going back too. Could you up the hp with DI, compression, and still maintain low octane gas requirement?

Another thing to throw into the discussion is that I believe there was a G6 concept wtih a 3.9 V6 with 3 valves making 275 hp........now I think that the 3.9 in a RWD form could make 250 hp in its current form with better freeier exhaust easily......
Re: VVT + Direct Injection + OHV 3.9L = 300hp?
Hmmm... hondas have alot of specific output per liter, but they really dont have any grunt!
If its 300 hp with 300 ft/lbs of torque flat as a table then cool, otherwise its just the same smoke and mirrors that has been used since James Watt dreamed up the term "horsepower"

Re: VVT + Direct Injection + OHV 3.9L = 300hp?
300 HP is stretching it. Remember that an engine's ability to produce power is limited mostly by the amount of air it can flow. A HV 3.9 with DI is not going to flow any better than the current one with port injection (unless the vertical runners usually used on this type of engine make some significant gains, which I doubt).
You do gain some efficiencies with a stratified charge (though mostly at part loads), and you can also bump the compression ratio because of better cooling of the intake charge, but that's not enough to get you to 300 HP.
Now if they added the 3-valve design to the mix, you might be getting somewhere ...

Re: VVT + Direct Injection + OHV 3.9L = 300hp?
I remember reading a GM release relating to GM's experimental OHV 3-valve V8 head ... by GM's own figures, the 3V head develops 10% more hp than equivalent 2V OHV heads while a 4V DOHC head develops around 15% more hp.

It allows people to own a V8 yet it doesnt scare them with the power. Plus, if they want to, they can always mod their way up to alot more power. I believe that a 300hp V6 would be stupid personally.
Our 270/275 HP/TQ Envoy had adequate power, even for its' weight, but it just sounded awful. It's nice that the TB/SS has more than enough power, but just as important, to me, is that driving it is an audio delight.
