Speed limited.......
Speed limited.......
Someone asked me -- I think it may have been Guy -- at what speed the fuel shut-off is set on the new Camaro.
The fuel shutoff is mandated based on the speed rating of the tire at the point of manufacture.
For the 2010 Camaro:
18 inch wheel/tire combination on the LS model is speed limited to 118.
All other 19 and 20 inch wheel/tire combinations from the factory are limited to 155.
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND OUT UNLESS YOU ARE ON A TRAFFIC-CONTROLLED TRACK!!!
too often we forget that there IS the law of physics -- and it takes a while to go from 155 to zero..........Brembos or not!

There is only one tire available on Tires.com in 335/25ZR20 (the stock rear tire on the ZR1). It is the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Runflat. This is, as far as I know, the OEM tire on the ZR1.
It has a service rating of 94Y, where the Y indicates a max speed rating of 186mph -- same as the Camaro.

There actually isn't a tire speed rating that = 155 mph. V is up to 149 mph. the old "Z" rating used to mean 149+. Now all "Z" rated tires specify how far over 149, with the W (up to 168 mph) or Y (up to 186 mph) ratings.
Does anybody know if the Camaro has the program in which it can tell its on a race track and it disables its limiter. I know some new cars have this feature... I think I saw it on the Nissan GT-R. But I'm pretty sure GM could do it through OnStar.
I would not want to be in a regular old street car at those speeds...esp. a heavy *** one....screw that, If I'm going to check out I dont want to do it like that...

jk, it could probobly hit 170mph, but I don't know..... It'd be fun though to try
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_to...camaro_SS_2010 thats how fast it can go

You could always take your car here...http://www.ecta-lsr.com/ to see what it can do.

I haven't heard of any car other than the GTR that does this. PCM programming should be the easy way to clip the limiter, just like on our 4th gens. I'm more curious as to the reason for the 155 limit - mechanical and aerodynamic reasons, or a "let's not rock the boat too much" choice based on the German mfg gentlemen's agreement to limit many cars to 155 mph.
