NEWS: Hennessey's Blown Camaro SS: The Real Story
If racing for 40 to 70 or on the highway in general is you thing....sure....especially high speed highway runs (though extended 3rd/4th/5th gear runs at full throttle with a blower on a stock bottom end might not be a wise thing...think heat and cylinder pressure).
Again, I tend to agree with your premise that boost requires lower compression, and perhaps forged pistons. But I haven't seen any reports of these bolt on Magnuson kits grenading engines, so maybe it is okay and reliable if the boost is low enough?
Personally, I think N/A would be better for simplicity's sake, but the blower is an interesting option, and avoids any risk of messing up stock idle and low speed drivability - i.e. if the car in stock form can idle up a parking garage in 2nd gear, a car with this blower kit could do it too, but a cammed car might not be able to.
What a joke. Here's his price break down.

I'm stunned at the prices. Why would anyone go to this guy? Having lots of money and they just want a Hennessey tuned car, I guess. I'd think I'd just go with a LS9 crate motor and swap it out myself.

I just checked to see if Lingenfelter had prices up yet, and sure enough they do. $11k for their 550hp supercharger install.

This makes Hennessey's even more insane.

so if you concidered changing the ls3 to an lsa or and ls9 you might as well buy the crate motor?
thats not too bad of a deal for lingenfelters package. the 570hp package. i couldnt do the 650 hp for 19k. but the 10k for the other is not bad. the supercharger alone is 6-7k from magnuson.

Well, I'd drop in a GM crate motor before going to Hennessey, no doubt about it. But if I was going the supercharger route, I think I would go with Lingenfelter. I think their packages are a great value and the company has an excellent reputation. But I can see the fun in working on the motor yourself, so I'd be tempted to go that way as well.
you gotta remember that alot of these people that go to companies like these, have the money to pay the price and have the money to take it back and have it repaired by them. in the end the money is no object to them and they will pay for whatever is needed.
