My concerns of the GT500-ization of the Camaro.

I am.
Zeta is a big, heavy, architecture to begin with, (heavier than it really needs to be)...which usually results in big, heavy cars. Maybe I'm reading the tea leaves wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get a heavier than GTO, Camaro - which would be a disaster IMO.
If it comes in that heavy, I think I'll be so turned off, that I simply won't be able to buy one. Which sort of pisses me off, since I've been waiting since the '90's for one.

Chaz -- wouldja STOP???!!!!!
Weight is everything to us -- did you happen to notice what happens to the CAFE standards in the next couple of years????
Re: My concerns of the GT500-ization of the Camaro.
I thought one of the main reasons for developing the zeta architecture instead of building Camaro on Sigma was b/c of weight issues. It would stand to reason, then that weight was a chief concern of the development team. I doubt they would've proceeded if they had failed at one of their chief goals.

When comparing the GT500 to the last Cobra, you have to consider the SN95 structure which wasessentially a revised Fox platform was already a lightweight (and pretty frightening when you see how they hold up in collisions), while the D2C is far more rigid and collision friendly.
I suspect regular V8 Camaros will be closer to the current GTO in weight, but given that GTO is carrying far more electric motors than Camaro would be carrying, along with a seriously heavy duty body structure (the GTO has a skid plate for crissakes!) I think Camaro might come in a few pounds lighter if not the same as the current Goat.
I know the Holden VE picked up at least 150-200 pounds, but Camaro & Impala aren't going to be VEs (Pontiac and Buick seem to be, though), and are likely to be cheaper lighter-duty (and maybe slightly lighter weight as well) versions.
Re: My concerns of the GT500-ization of the Camaro.
why not make the fenders, hoods, bumper, and deck lids out of fiberglass or some other composite. add a little ridgidy and whalla, lightweight. but i dought it would work.
Re: My concerns of the GT500-ization of the Camaro.
I am very worried about the next Camaro. If it's as heavy as the new 'Stang I won't be buying one....Hopefully the Camaro team looks to the 'Vette for inspiration and not the Mustang.
Re: My concerns of the GT500-ization of the Camaro.
I think that increasingly tough safety standards combined with what most people expect out of a new car these days (power everything) are going to result in a fairly heavy car.
Maybe we should stop laughing at the Challenger and GT500 until we see the weight numbers on the top-of-the-line Camaro?
