Exclamation possible timeline..forseen ......

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...40#post3650340
What Doug Harding posted:
At best, it'll be an early 09. Here's a timeline;assuming that they go the whole car circuit getting feedback (even though they have done lots of clinics already) -they make final design decisions around 4/1/05 and release the class A surface which gets retuned and finalized 6/15/06 ( thats 6 months) engineering begins for production (up to now, nothing is final), give that 6 months for the interior, exterior, chassis, powertrain, etc - and that would be pushing it for a brand new car. That takes it t0 12/06. Prototypes must be built for testing, including tooling - that will go on while the engineering is being done, a lot based on the concept. Tooling will start during the engineering phase - assume steel tools for steel skin ( not SMC - fascias will be TPO) - 8-10 months; all of the interior is being done at the same time - takes it to 10/07. Production testing - 6 months - now at 4/08. Assuming everything works, build test fleets - remember - it'll be a brand new plant as well. That has to be concurrent with the car design and build. Launch will be 8/07 - that makes it an 08 model. That's very optimistic timing - but GM is shooting for 18 month timing - I'd say 24 is more realistic.

what MrMacPhisto wrote:
I've been told by a friend with family in the GM upper echelons that a lot more work has been done on the Camaro than the public knows. While it's called a "concept" it has already gotten some production work done and is pretty much slated for production, but GM is waiting to publicly confirm it.

I personally think they want to ride the "concept" buzz and then blindside everyone with a much closer date than anyone expects - sometime before the middle of next year with a limited production run as a late '07 40th Anniversary model before going into full scale production at the very end of '07 as an '08 model, with large sales volume not likely until early '08.

This guy was dead on when it came to the C6, the Solstice, and a couple of other cars. I trust him, so don't be surprised if this car comes a lot sooner than '09 because a lot more work has been done on it than GM will tell the public right now. I expect the production version to debut a year from now in Detroit possibly.

what I posted almost a year ago:
Okay guys here me out on this...

this is what is going to go down...

40th...2007 is the anniversary, and what will we see..the NAIAS debut of the new 2008 Camaro..PRODUCTION READY...

there will be 40 cars built for the media blitz and show, these will be 2007.5 and will be auctioned, raffled off whatever..GM HOT BUTTON.. to generate buzz for the new Camaro. And to keep pace with the 40th anniversary of having a 2007 Camaro..

2008 Regular production starts..AND the 100th birthday of GM...that is what will be a win win situation for GM and the Camaro..you dont take away from the Camaros 40th and you dont take away from GM's 100th for just one car.

Just hope this comes true....

Possibly the car will be built in the Delaware plant. Same plant as the solstice since that is only at 15% Capacity right now. This is very promising!

Re: possible timeline..forseen ......

well its 12AM and got another "thought"

the NAIAS show next year will have a prototype that will be the basis of the Daytona 500 pace car for 2007, maybee even one of the concepts done over in the pace car theme..a throwback to the 69 white and orange striped pace car with a little more flare to it..maybee some phantom checkerboard patter in the stripes..and some really nice stobe light placements..

something GM can do with the concept since it is already built..

..yup..thats right 2007 Daytona 500 is going to be paced by the new

2007.5 Camaro Z/28

The pace car will be a heritage styles after the 69 pace car with the Z/28 moniker on its sides. These "test shot" vehicles will be put out for the public to see. These test vehicles that will be in the show will be the shakedown cars for the plant. onceovered for saftey and track duty.

after that a certain amount of Z/28 models will be build..all with the same paintscheme, nothing else.
40? 100? 1967? It wont be a long run of Camaros, but this will get the plant up and running for the 2008. and get the name and hype about Camaro.

ALL 2007.5 Camaro's will be Z/28's, as a nod to listening to the fans of Camaro and for GM an easy way to get a stipped down back to basics car out to the public fast, without alot of possible new car glitches
This will drive up the demand and the rarity and specialty of the car.

.when they sell out.. The Z/28 will then be gone while the 2008 Camaro gets under way with the SS showing up to take its place. the SS will take center stage for 2008 with 2009 as the return of the Z/28 again as the replacement for the 1LE optioned Camaro.

Sounds strange but think about it..the original Z/28 was a race car a stripped model..what other car can come out brand new hold that heritage, get the point across and do it in a way that wont devalue the Camaro..it will be what the Z/28 was..and this prevents the new car problems of something coming out so fast..
Z/28 is that car.

After those cars get rolling the hype will be there..though no Z/28's will be avalible the SS will be there and the base Camaro..for now..
a year later we get the Z/28 back in any color you want and an option package that goes to almost the SS level but not all the goodies, just some but its offered as a low cost go fast alternative that everyone will clamour for.

well thats my thought..
see how right I am in a year from now since the Daytona 500 is right around the corner..

Re: possible timeline..forseen ......

The reason I wouldn't put too much hope in GM making a 40th anniversary Camaro for the sake of having a production vehicle on the anniversary is that GM hasn't shown too much enthusiasm for anniversaries in the past...

previous "anniversary edition" cars have been little more than wheel/stripe packages...

and let's not forget the 30th anniversary Corvettes, the 83's... oh wait... there weren't any... just the one sitting at the Corvette Museum, at least as far as I know...

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, or say that a 2007 Camaro is impossible, just saying that GM hasn't shown a tendency to care much about anniversaries...

Pontiac generally did something special with the anniversary T/A's 79, 89, 94, 99

79 first year for 4 wheel disk brakes.

89 3.8 Turbo (no stripes)

94 stripe

99 two stripes and they had really cool rims

If it's in the Transformer movie next summer I would expect GM to have something out shortly thereafter to take advantage of the free publicity. Wait too long and interest lags.

Late '07 would be really cool....

don't forget the 35th anniversary camaro, it got ... STRIPES!

100 30th camaro's got the LT4 though, so that was a slight break from the mold.

2007.5?

We are in the 2007 model year already (been since January).

2007 MY ends December 31st. No way on earth you'll see one before then, so perish the thought of ANY 2007, 2007.5,or even a 2007.99 Camaro.

It's going to be mid next year (mid 2008 model year) at the earliest, and I may be dreaming a little on that date.

Best bet, late next year or early '08.

Forgot the 84, blue stripes and unique interior.

But didn't the fourth gen debut in the spring of 1993 as a 93? I may be wrong, but that is what I remember.

That's how I remember it as well. They came out in '93 as 1993 1/2 cars I believe.
