To be a GTO, it has to be somewhat larger and have a larger back seat -- where 4 can sit comfortably for hours. (not saying the Camaro won't have a functional back seat -- but Camaro/Firebird owners, on par, prefer style over utility.

BTW: To paraphrase a old kitty litter commercial's "I still say their diamonds" on the car's look... "I still say a GTO".

Slayer, no matter how many times people from GM and Pontiac make clear there's not one coming off this program....on the record and in an official capacity, none the less.... a seemingly endless stream of people continuously talk about how their friends brother and law on their sister's side, Backyard Pontiacs magazine, or some 13 year old over on some internet site say that GM's going to make another Firebird. Then you have the group who swears they will never buy another Pontiac and want to tear off limbs of Pontiac and GM executives and beat them over the head with them because GM won't build those 500,000 Firebirds they swear will sell if only GM would stuff 500 horse engines in them.
This group forgets that Firebirds have basically been Camaros with a Corvette inspired nose, running the same powertrain, made in the same plant, after the same customers..... and from the same frigging company for crissakes!
I go through the points as to why it's not going to happen, that "For us or against us" mentality takes over and I become one of those who are "Against" them. So, I become "Anti-Firebird" because I'm the bearer of bad news. It doesn't faze me, and it's really quite dumb since my favorite car growing up was a Trans Am, and I'm a big fan of the '89 Turbo Trans Am. But that's the nature with fanatics.

Bob Lutz, & 2 Pontiac general managers , and even Scott have explained this many times over, as well as can be done in the english language without drawing pitcures or using miniature stuffed animals, so what can you do?

There were just 19,000 V8 Firebirds made in 2002, and an absolutely pittyful 9,800 V6 Firebirds sold! Hardly a convincing case when GM is looking at 100,000 Camaros as the ground floor of profitablity, realizes V6 models are going to determine the success of the car line, and knows that they will have to spend money on regular restylings to keep sales momemtum up. No person who expects to keep their job is going to advocate spending money to essentially canibalize those sales and reduce the ability for redesigns and success of the Camaro.
The Firebird sales figures are heavily tilted against lower end V6 and V8s. There were a mere 900 Formulas made in 2002.... yes, that's 900! There were 3900 Trans Am coupes made... with and without T-tops! 998 Trans Am convertibles.... again, that's as in hundred, not thousand. There were only 2600 Ram Air convertibles.
Want to know why Pontiac is hellbent on GTO over Firebirds? It's Firebird buyers! The only Firebird that that sold enough to even register on anyone's sales radar is the WS6 Ram Air coupe.... average price: well in excess of $30,000.... at 12,200 cars. Average sales of $30,000 GTOs? 15,000 cars (a "failed" car...in the view of some firebird fans... outsold Firebirds in the same price range.... by 20% for crying out loud!
). Sales of the $40,000+ low production Corvette? 34,200 cars last year! Like I said, I know I may come across as anti-Firebird, but although some refuse to hear it and are forever coming up with new ideas & scenarios (that they somehow honestly believe no one at GM has already gone over multiple times, or that hasn't been looked at already) there is simply no case for a Firebird whatsoever as a derivative of Camaro. GTO is a far and away stronger case.
IMO, and I've said it before, unless the coupe market simply explodes within the next 2 years to the point that it makes sense to do it, the only possibility of the Firebird name coming back is if a case if made for a Kappa based car.
That's not anti-Firebird..... that reality.

Um... OK, but what does me practicing my photoshop skills and
whipping up a Firebird inspired chop have to do with the fact that
Pontiac is not going to build them any more
It's just a picture... and I am the creator... and I say it's a Firebird damn it
