Horseshoe shifters a WAAAAAY cool.

You could easily do a ratchet shifter with one, but it'll kinda mess up any plans for an "autostick" thingy.

Well now, that's a pretty interesting automobile purchase conundrum you've got there...

Volvo or Camaro? Camaro or Volvo? Volvo or Camaro? Camaro or Volvo? Volvo or Camaro? Camaro or Volvo?

That one would take me ages to sort out for myself too.

I feel your pain.

It's kinda like choosing between the beautiful Mrs. X's dulcet tones, curvy shape and roaring engine of love... and a... erm... root canal.

Re: Horseshoe Shifter Must Make Production.

I think they should buy a shifter straight from honyota. This way there will be no chance that a magazine artcle about camaro says anything about 'the switchgear feels cheap'

I'm of course kidding, but only halfway. Ever notice that for some reason, rags love to whine about GM/american cars shifters, at least as much as they whine about the interiors in general.

GM needs to find some way to make a shifter that 'feels good' whatever the hell that means. One less specific thing for the rags to pan it on, though if it comes like the concept interior, they'll say the guages are ugly (just like i'm pretty sure i read many reviews panning the retro mustang interior) and the console guages are useless, etc anyway.

Re: Horseshoe Shifter Must Make Production.

lol. to make a long story short: i grew up in a family of volvos. my daily is a volvo (forced, another long story). the idea of a fwd monte or impala doesn't appeal to me when there's a big s80 twin turbo. if i was going to have FWD, i'd go that route. i didn't find anything i liked over at cadillac, so i test drove a couple s80 t6s last year. then, i started seeing pics of the new camaro, and over the past 4 weeks, i'm going to run what i got till the camaro hits the showrooms. by that time the boxcar should be worth next to nil, should be funny to light it on fire or something and send the pics captioned "this is what i think" to my family and friends, but that's another long story

Leave the horseshoe for the classics! PLEASE!!
You took the words right out of my mouth..........anyone who had a car with this ....well, I just can't imagine why we'd do such a thing. Looks cool.....does not work very well

Hmm....sounds kinda like the console gauges. Looks cool.....does not work very well. Well, no, actually they don't look cool either.

I can see what you mean about the staple shifter though. It isn't exactly the most effective way to shift an auto.

I'm actually liking the interior. Looks roomy, and not cluttered with a bunch of nonsense.

True enough, they don't work very well. It's hard to admit though, I love the one in my 69.

Well, at least that would solve my auto vs. standard quandry once and for all!

Wow, way to throw that one back at 'em (literally)

If console guages make it and a horse shoe shifter doesn't, i guess we can assume that the designers/productization people aren't working with a coherent set of goals. How well an automatic shifter works in a car that is shifted by the computer 99.999% of the time is a funny concern in a car with guages that are a disaster for ergonomics and safe motoring.

Is the functionality something that cant be fixed? I mean get the look of it but something that works ALOT better? Its one of the many things I like on my 69. Id probably be interested in the 6 spd anyway, but if I were to get an auto that looks cool.

Re: Horseshoe Shifter Must Make Production.

Why couldnt you just have the look of one while it still having the same functionality of a standard shift handle. I think that would be perfect when mated to a nice new 6spd auto. On the subject of transmissions...PLEASE do not use the 4L60-E in it, or whatever the up to date 4spd is in GMs part bin. It needs a 6spd for many reasons.
