Yeah my bros GT weighed 3540 stock with 18's, but it already has an aluminum hood, roof and block, plus a solid axle. Not to mention the fenders are as thin as construction paper. I can't see a 2011 even weighing the same unless it's the size of a Solstice.

Well Doug, Ford says it's cars will lose that.

I just kept the same ole 3,500 pounds for this poll.

Also, the rumor is the next Mustang will be smaller.

I think they're planning a more intensive use of high strength and ultra high strength steel.

A good question.

And I just looked it up out of curiousity... the 2002 TA that I had was listed as having 3500 lb curb as well (edmunds.com). LS2 GTO's - - 3725 lb. Seems the range for a modern RWD 2+2 coupe is about 3500 - 3725.

Ugh. One of the reasons I crossed the 05 Stang off my list after sitting in one at a dealer - tiny rear leg- and headroom. Making it even smaller?

It's rumored that the shrinkage would occur from a reduced rear overhang. I don't think they're planning on shrinking the interior.

From the spy pics with camo it does not look like the overhang is less.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but isn't the current commodore heavier then the last commodore.

The GTO was based off the last gen commodore and weighed ~3750. The GTO is also about the same size as the 5th gen. Seems to me that the 5th gen, based on a chassis similar to the new, heavier commodore will then also similarly weigh more.

At the least, i don't see any way the 5th gen will weigh less then the GTO, but since the new 4 door chassis is heavier, i'd bet so too will a couple based on it.

I'm more of the “believe it when I see it” kind of person. Oddly enough I'm in sales but personally I'd take results and actions over words and promises any day. I've put enough time in and near the automakers to know fancy press from reality.

Will CAFE change things? Sure. Could Ford drop 300 or even 500lbs for the next Mustang? Probably. Do I believe that they will?? Well let me ask this. If Ford did everything they say they would do, why is their stock trading at $5.29 at today’s close?
