It isn't as if that comment isn't completely unsupported. At least not by the hero lap times in the head to head comparisons. GT500's power to weight ratio is making up for the handling deficit in some places.
It is going to come down to driving skill, and importantly track configuration.

Some Limey compares the ZL1 and GT500
No offense to Chris Harris
As you can expect, ZL1 was nicer to drive around in. He was able to lap faster in it, despite it feeling slower, and in the end he wants the GT500 because it is more ridiculous.

I'm fairly certain the Shelby has larger diameter rotors actually. They're 15" vs. the ZL1's (someone correct me if I'm wrong) 14.6" I believe.
