I can just see the newly appointed Car Czar listening to GM try and make a case for more model overlap for a already previously cut vehicle nameplate to be sold in a soon to be defunct brand.... Has that magazine been paying attention to the news at all? At a time when GM is thinking of slashing pontiac offerings I doubt they're going to come out with a Camaro clone in the form of a firebird??

if they plan on making a hybrid camaro, maybe they shouldnt call it the camaro but call it the firebird. then the camaro wont take the fall if it doesnt do well.

Any reengineering costs for front and rear fascia changes, as well as interior redesigns would have to be rolled into the price of Camaro as Pontiac wouldn't move enough numbers to justify the costs.

I don't see it happening. It runs contrary to some of the changes restructuring are meant to solve.

I heard the same. Part of the GM re-org plan that was written to Congress is to shut down one of their brands. Pontiac was on hit list.

i dont think it will shut down, i think they will sell them off. i heard saturn was on the chopping block to be sold too.

Hummer and Saturn were targeted by GM for sale or shutdown, Pontiac has been mentioned as needing re-focus, cutting down on the number of Pontiac models perhaps to the point of only having one or two lines (say maybe G6 and G8) with a couple of variations of each. Opel was also originally mentioned as a possible sale, that looks to have changed now and GM will likely retain some interest in Opel. In these troubled times for the US automakers, I would highly suggest a little research before you post suppositions or blatant rumors, things are bad enough for them without throwing inaccurate "fuel on the fire".

WOW! chill out bro. its only speculations and no one but the heads of gm know whats going to happen. just relax. no one is adding fuel to the fire. sounds like your adding fuel to the fire talking about cutting pontiac down to 2 cars. everyone is assuming and no one is claiming.

Perhaps if YOU did a little research you'd find that my "adding fuel to the fire" is much closer to what GM has said about re-focusing Pontiac to a "niche" brand than most of the speculations here.
